    Hi all,

    A couple of things :)

Sounds silly but... when you use the coupons for various things do you hand over at purchase point i.e. if i was getting a free drink i order 2 and show the coupon at that point? Same with a meal. Sorry to be dull :) Totally none MSE attitude i know :( but i think i would feel slightly embarrassed handing over a coupon :(:( ( i know that is daft)

GC tours i have picked a point up that Sundays seem to be the best day togo as less busy, does any body know if that is the case? If not what day is the best day to leave Vegas behind to spend at the GC. I want to go on the 15 hours coach tour ( :) )

Finally if any one remembers i have had a big problem chosing my hotel, changed my mind soooooooo many times but have now booked and will not change again!

    Regards

    Steve

Hmmmmmmmm must look at count down clock, don't see many posters showing them, maybe i am the only one going in August :)

Recently got back from my first trip and would like to go again.

    If anyone could help with:

When is the cheapest time of the year to go when there is some heat? - say 70's to 80's.

Anyone any experience of what is better, booking flights when they are cheap and then sourcing a hotel or booking a late deal?

Obviously the cheaper the better - we paid about £1500 for two of us with a direct flight but we booked about 10 months in advance. Any ideas what a good range of lower prices would be?

    Any info greatly appreciated!

If I order and pay at different points I will show it when I order (just in case) and usually hand it over when paying. It really depends on what coupon. Some will say to show it to the server when ordering, others don't.

When we were using our restaurant.com voucher at Austin's Steakhouse I wasn't sure what the protocol was and I sort of flashed it at the waiter ahen we were ordering trying to be a bit discreet and he said 'madam, please put that away and enjoy your wonderful meal - we will deal with such matters at the end'.

OK, typed out it sounds kinda snotty but he said it in a wonderful Italian accent and it totally made me feel comfortable. :)

As for being embarrassed, of one place in the world not to be embarrassed using a coupon it's Vegas. They had out coupons like candy to get people into their casinos to spend money - they totally expect them to be used.

Where did you stay and for how long? And from what airport?

If you want to fly direct, that will limit options and increase cost. Some think it's worth it, others don't.

If you've flown with Virgin before and want to fly from London, you should have some airmiles you can use (if not, sign up and see if you can claim missing miles)...you could get miles+money fares which might bring your fares down to...though plenty of people are avoiding Virgin and flying indirect for more comfortable, newer planes and spending less on tickets.

We normally go first week in November and the weather is pretty much exactly what you're after and it's normally quite reasonable, but this year there are 2 massive conventions that week so hotels are way more expensive...perhaps later in November might work....or early March, but there's a lot of US sporting events in March so some say Vegas can be really busy then.

We always book everything direct - flights first then hotels - but we always, ALWAYS check the convention calendar before booking flights as there are some each year with 100,000+ attendees which will send the hotel rates soaring...so we avoid those dates when we can.

    http://www.lasvegastourism.com/conventions_nov.htm

We're not last minute deal people - I can't handle the waiting, but some have gotten great last minute deals on airfare, at least...but not usually with the big carriers.

all though i have always meant to go but haven't Joe's stone-crab and steak restaurant in the Forum Mall always gets rave reviews , it's expensive though :A
thanks to everyone I have now booked Mandalay Bay a strip view room for 3 nights, the price was $159, $159 and $169 plus taxes for a strip view room, when you take the lowest rate off for 1 night using the prommo. I thought it was ok for this hotel.

    What do you all think
hope I have made the right choice, even though I still got nyny booked and the flamingo for the same 3 nights

if you don't mind being center strip , Mandalay bay is a very nice place to stay and hang out, loads to do , loads of places to eat , lots of places to have fun , and the undisputed best pool in Vegas .it's only slight negative is that is not center strip, but it does not feel at all removed from the action IMO.

stop worrying ;) if you go for it you will be pleased i'm sure

never ever feel embarrassed handing a coupon over in Vegas , unless your such snob that you would not even be on this site in the 1st place. Coupons are everywhere and if you don't use them you are effectively over paying for somethings , because the merchants that issue them expect them to be used more often than people buying stuff without coupons.

i always say i have a coupon when i I'm ordering , booking something ect, so they can expect it before ringing up your total/bill ect.
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Yes they expect you to use coupons if you have them and it's always best to mention at the beginning that you have one.

I didn't notice it in Vegas, even though I have used loads of coupons there, but distinctly remember in Florida that every time I went into a restaurant the cashier would automatically ask, "Do you have a coupon?" so they do expect you to use them.

    Thanks ferf123!

Would probably be flying from London and I think have to be direct so I guess we are limited. However poss travel a bit further afield this end if the price was right. Did not fly Virgin - I'll check out the airmiles situation with my Tesco clubcard if this could help in any way.

We stayed in NY NY and would like to stay on the strip again but I don't think really not too bothered about the quality of hotel next time.

November is too soon and March could be a strong possibility. I'll do some more research but thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for helping with the south rim lodge bookings, we now have our favoured two nights booked.

Those of you that stayed at the South Rim Grand Canyon lodges what time did you set off in the morning? Im thinking about 8am - 8:30am but was wondering if thats early enough really?

Google says its 4 hours 30 minutes but is it really that long?

Also we are going mid October and we want a convertible, is it convertible weather out there at that time of year?

As to what to do when we are there, unfortunately the wife is still recovering from an arm operation which means anything short of mild walking becomes painful for her within half an hour. So mule rides and long hikes are out. Does anyone have a list of things that are "must do" for the two nights we are there bearing in mind the arm problems.

Also anything else we should do/not do, Im sure this info is already in this thread but its a very long read.

Or is it just a case of it all becoming apparent when we get there, a bit like it did for us when we got to Yosemite?

    Thanks in advance.
