  • Are Voodoo Cafe or Top of the World smartly dressed restaurants? Evening dress etc - or just the general holiday night wear? What kind of prices? Good for a typical British family who like a drink?

We drove ourselves around, very easy parking at all the viewing points and you can stay as long as you want.

Nothing to do in the eve, we had an early night and then got up early to get to the canyon for sunrise, its well worth it even though it was -4 in april.

As another poster says the sky is amazing if you have a clear night, I think I am right in saying that you can see more stars here than most places in the world (may b total ribbish but there is a lot)

Thanks Sew, the pics were lovely, did you only pay $72 pn? However, my question really was has anyone stayed in the Meridian Luxory resort. We definately are having 2 nights in ( probably Mirage) but the first 5 nights we want a 2 bed suite, just off strip - its only 1 block. As I said, its looks fab on the website, but I know MSE ers may have their own opinions if it is value for money.

Sorry cant comment on meridian. Have you been to Vegas before? If you havent I would not reccomend staying off strip. I usually have a couple of nights at the Orleans (off strip) for a change but I have been a few times and even then I pine to be back on the strip.

I can only comment on the top of the world, but two of us had a large (and I mean LARGE) glass of wine, 3 courses a bottle of wine and coffees, and it came to less than £100. In terms of attire, we were told no sports wear, no jeans or trainers, no tank tops (like you would) and that all mens tops must have collars. I just wore smartish trousers, shoes and shirt and it was all fine. You need to book early, I have already booked for the first two weeks in september (which is a bit well organised - but at least a month in advance should garauntee a table) if you get there early you can ask to wait til an 'outer' table is available (better views) and you can sit in the bar and have a drink until the buzzer goes off as notification

I can’t tell you how much Voodoo was as I was treated I ma guessing it was more than say Hardrock or PH but less than Fleur De Lys I would say probably about £40 a head fopr three courses but as I said I did not pay. The dress code at Voodoo is OK I wore Jeans, Shirt and shoes and smart casual was bout the norm did not see any suits or ties. Top of the World I think is overpriced the food is fair no better and I think we paid about $250 for two of us with wine, saw people there in suits I wore shirt, shoes and linen trousers.

I agree. We paid about that, no wine but a couple of beers (not wine drinkers, us). I wore a skirt and blouse, hubby wore tan trousers and a button-down shirt. Personally we would never do it again - nice to do once for the view, yes...but wouldn't expect much from the food (silly us, we did for that price) - felt it would have been overpriced at 1/2 what we paid and have had far better meals in Vegas for far, far less money.

We're in the minority though - many rave about the place. :)

Edited to add - we're not snooty, difficult to please diners, either. Heck, one of our favorites is EI BBQ, after all. :)

Thanks photome and sew109... I had not even considered the stars...as someone who spent a fair amount of time during my teen years driving out to the country and spending many (only moderately angsty) hours looking at the stars and who looks up immediately whenever going outside after dark, this could be an amazing thing...fingers crossed for a clear night.

Also, will bring a deck of cards for evening entertainment for those not so smitten with gazing at the heavens! :)

So far I have 3 on there that we haven't been to before.
    Nine Fine Irishmen (NY NY)
    Il Fornaio (NY NY)
Binions Ranch Steakhouse - (Freemont Street)

I was wondering if anyone could comment on these and maybe help to add a few more.
One place I would definately recommend is Grand Lux in Venetian. Not expensive, good menu and the food was great (going back again in 3 weeks !!). Also, cannot yet recommend but we are going to Casa di Amore which is supposed to be very good with free limo pickup from your hotel.
