I've never been to the US, so the quality / price ration, which I have "mastered" in Europe, is unknown to me (and LV seems to be a place on its own!!) and I get completely lost. And I seem to be looking at hotels which are perhaps too much for my needs (MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood). I know I won't regret going for a more expensive hotel, but I would rather save a bit and spend it on Cirque shows!!!

Can someone recommend some hotels given this description of my preferences? Many many thanks!!

PS: I don't really understand priceline or hotwire... so I would rather book via a conventioanl website or via the hotel promos. But I am looking for August and most deals from the hotels don't run that far... Suggestions please as to the best place to look?

Vegas hotels have thousands of rooms - so there will always be rooms within the hotel that are at the end of their useful life. As for prostitutes, well - it's Vegas...I actually see more prostitutes in the nicer casinos - perhaps as the clientele can better afford them?

From the places I have stayed I would recommend Bally's deluxe rooms (NOT CLASSIC!). The classic rooms have not been refurbished and would not suit your preferences.

Depending on your dates there is currently a deal on from $70/night for these rooms ($50/night for the classic rooms).

May be worth considering (updated for correct link)

I am biased toward Bally's, but I do think that the North Tower rooms fit your requirements and are good value for money and are some of the largest on the strip.

I have heard good things about Bill's and the rooms there - as it's a small hotel and doesn't have the thousands of rooms of some others, I would imagine that when they renovate the rooms (which they did recently) it doesn't take as long and all can be done fairly close together.

You could also consider some of the other Harrah's properties which do have their hot deals available through August.

The Flamingo GO rooms were recently refurbished (though aren't to my taste some like them).

I've had excellent success with the $20 trick at PH, 3 out of 3. Last time we got a newly remodelled Resort room with a view of the Bellagio fountains! It was on the 23rd floor which is the highest floor of that leg that sticks out the front of the hotel.

I used to hold the $20 in my hand after I'd handed over the passport and credit card, but read on www.frontdesktip.com to hand it over at the same time. I've done that twice now, at PH and the Bellagio, and it worked both times. Will be trying it at the MGM and Palazzo so wish me luck. Not bothered if it doesn't work as I think a regular room in Vegas is great.

As for the IP, we only stay there because it's cheap so stay there at the weekend when everywhere else is $300+ a night. We are paying $29/$119/$119 and $39/$119/$119 so we are getting 3 nights for less than the cost of one night elsewhere. Imagine getting a room in Vegas for £15!

I know that some people get their rooms free, but we are tiny low rollers who only play penny slots so that's not going to happen for us.

Luci did you just hand over the pasport card and $20 or did you ask were there any complimentary upgrades ?

    Afternoon all,
Just wanted to post my experience with restaurant.com - a site that sells gift certificates for restaurants in america - more specifically, Las Vegas.
I first heard about it on this thread and looked into it recently.

Today I have managed to buy x4 $25 (Total $100 of credit) gift certificates for four different restaurants for the price of $16!

I signed up on their website last week and over the weekend they sent me a discount code for 25% off their prices - I was away this weekend and didnt see it in time. I was feeling a little disappointed at the missed discount, but today they sent me a further discount code for 60% off their prices! Of course, I have used it now for the above and am very happy with my purchase and saving.

I have bought them for the following restaurants:-

Blondies Sports Grill, Las Vegas - inside the miracle mile @ Planet Hollywood
El Patron Mexican Restaurant & Oyster Bar - South Maryland Parkway - voted best Mexican 2006/2007 in Vegas
Ocean One Bar & Grille - again, in miracle mile shops, Planet Hollywood
    40/40 Club, The Palazzo Resort.

Each one is $25 for the normal price of $10 with 60% discount. Huge savings.

All of them have conditions that you have to spend over $35 and a tip is added of 18% of total bill - must be presented prior to ordering with one cert per party only.

If anyone else is interested in getting this discount just register on their website - using the zip code for Vegas - 89109 and Im sure they will send you a code too.

If anyone has eaten at any of these restaurants or has any tips/advice for me then please let me know.
Thanks - and I hope this helps someone else.
PS - the certs are valid for 1 year from purchase date.
    Steff ;)

We tried Blondie's last trip - also with a restaurant.com voucher. With the voucher I think it was good value, without the voucher it's overpriced. The fish and chips were really good. When we were there service was really quick.

We've found that in a lot of cases, even if the certificate says that they will add an 18% gratuity a lot of the time they don't so worth checking the receipt to be sure if they have or not. Also remember to tip on the total before the voucher if no gratuity was included!

We've also tried a few others that were good -

    Austin's Steakhouse at Texas Station
    Sonoma Cellar at Sunset Station
Quark's at LV Hilton (great for Star Trek fans)
Original Pancake House - various locations
    Ben & Jerry's - various locations
Kahunaville at TI (though last I checked they were no longer participating)

We currently have a certificate for Origin India we hope to use in June and one for Tacone at Miracle Mile shops. :)

    Air conditioning in rooms?

    Hi everyone,
I've tried finding this info on the Bally's, Flamingo website without sucess, but are the rooms air-conditioned? We are going in August  and LV must be pretty hot!! Bill's deluxe rooms say A/C.

When searching on expedia and restricting to air conditioning, these hotels, and others still pop up, but looking at the hotels pages it does not say... I'm just worried it might be the common areas.
    Thanks.

Now I've decided it's either Flamingo Go room, Bally's deluxe or ... MGM grand.

MGM grand: I found a deal for July/august in the hotelhuntwebsite for $89 with 241 grand buffet and $35 activity, but would like more info on the rooms there? Are the cheaper rooms renovated?
    TIA

PS: I really need to wrap things up with this trip... it is taking me so much time to plan  But I am so looking forward and I do love planning trips :j Sorry for all the posts.

I think you will find all Hotels and Motels in Nevada have air conditioning.

Agreed - and it's proper air conditioning not comfort cooling or some of the things that are called 'air conditioning' in Europe but really are not. :)
