New: Natwest Travel Reward Credit Card

The headlines:

• No FX fees or annual fees
  
• 1% back on "eligible travel spending"
• 0.1% minimum cashback on all spend (elevated cashback on certain retailers via MyRewards)
• Issued as a Mastercard Visa
  

Not an out-and-out market leading deal but might make sense for some.

Don't forget Santander Edge cc. 2% back on all spending for first year, 1% in year 2, and no FX fees.

They're is a £3 monthly fee and you have to have a current account (can be a basic non-fee one), but it's working for me.

Yep, slightly different use case - I think this is more intended for (occasional) travel related usage like Clarity, whereas the Santander Edge card really needs to be used every month in order to get maximal value.

I know some people prefer Halifax Clarity over Barclaycard Reward because it's a Mastercard rather than a Visa, but LBG are moving 'a majority' of cards over to Visa soon, and this one adds a (pretty measly) cashback benefit.

I have just received my Natwest Travel Reward Credit Card and it is issued by Visa (not Mastercard). I'm interested to know why it matters? I thought Visa and Mastercard were accepted at the same places as each other and were essentially indistinguishable for the consumer.

I think some people like to have one of each just in case. There was an occasion a few years ago when Visa went down for a few hours and everyone panicked. It is also not true that Visa and Mastercard are universally accepted. I went to Peru a few years ago and there were some towns where Visa was widely accepted but not MC.

Mastercard interchange rate was once thought to be slightly more favourable overall, but it doesn't make a great deal of difference.

Interesting they've gone with Visa for this one, the first new Natwest Group Visa credit product in decades!

I can't find anywhere this is detailed beyond - "Use your credit card on eligible travel spend - (Hotels, accommodation, planes, car hire, buses, cruises, trains and more)", there's no currency stipulation so I should think it should count.

Of course, with these things it almost always depends which MCC is used by the merchant; but if you purchased any of the above listed items and didn't receive (at least) 1% back in rewards I think you'd have legitimate cause for complaint as things stand.

I have this card and I can confirm that the 1% CB for spend on flights/hotels/car-hire/taxis/trains (and 0.1% on anything else) does trigger even on FX purchases.

I'm really pleased with this card: I've been using the Chase debit card for FX spending as much as I can but debit cards are a nightmare for flights, hotels and car hire.
