I am not sure why that can be good - especially with the security risk.
I am a bit frustrated right now that an item I ordered with a stated delivery date 13-14 April has been delivered today.
We have gone away and not back until Monday. So, I found out the item has been delivered and left on the doorstep. A risk of the item being stolen and advertising that nobody is at home. I have had to message a neighbour to ask them to take the parcel in - hopefully they will be able to do so.
Annoying for me and an inconvenience for my neighbour.

Stated delivery date..or estimated delivery date?…online shopping is not for you perhaps?

In general I'd say that a stated delivery date from a courier tends to suggest one of the better ones, perhaps less likely to be careless.
My experience here has been that those couriers who provide firm dates are also those who always follow delivery instructions (in our case just putting the item in the parcel box) and who provide detailed live tracking, so you have a much better idea of the time they're arriving.
The only courier we consistently have a problem with is Evri. Whoever they have covering our area now couldn't care less about security. Like some others, Evri has an option to instruct their courier to leave parcels in specified a safe place, but just like placing signs on the doorstep and arrows pointing to the parcel box their couriers ignore these.
No doubt the reason is the race to the bottom with prices. I believe Evri are one of the cheapest and I strongly suspect they don't employ their couriers. My guess is that their couriers are self-employed and paid a pittance per parcel. Might be OK for them in an urban area, but we're in a rural area with houses spread wide apart. No doubt the Evri couriers covering this area really struggle to earn even the basic wage.

Yes, we've learned that we won't get Evri parcels until there are a few to be delivered in the village all at once. Which can lead to two of the three delivery attempts falsely being claimed that they 'couldn't deliver' which was quite alarming the first few times before the driver told us what was going on. Our previous driver was fine. Well, this one is too when he does come, it's just annoying to have to wait days longer for parcels than if they were coming by a different courier.

That's a bit of a harsh extrapolation.
When I ordered the item on Monday evening, and knowing we are away this weekend, I paid attention to the part of the listing that said the item was currently out of stock and expected delivery date 13-14 April so I proceeded to order on that basis.
I felt secure it would not arrive while we were away.
For the item to then land 2 weeks early was inconvenient at best.
