I won't buy from eBay sellers if they use Evri. With Royal Mail I can have parcels redelivered or if I have a tracking number, I can choose the delivery day before they arrive. With Amazon, I have an Amazon Day and my parcels are grouped for that, unless I need something urgently. I have Prime so can do that.

Our delivery drivers either don't knock, or knock and don't wait to see if you answer. Our door opens onto a public pavement near a school which has a lot of traffic at drop off/pick up times.

We specify to leave by back door if not in which is through a gate not far from front door, but apparently that is too much for them.

Even had an argument with a DPD driver when I asked him as he was walking alway (not having waited for me to answer the door) why he hadn't waited for an answer, or even just left at back door as specified, if he was in a hurry. He threatened me with not delivering my parcel next time and just taking it back to the depot saying 'undeliverable' if I made a fuss. I made a fuss. They confirmed the delivery instructions and said it wouldn't happen again, but it still does.

Some drivers leave the parcel in our neighbour's outdoor store, again without knocking - we are almost always in due to disabilities, but at least it's safe in there, I suppose, although we don't know the neighbour well, he seems like a nice guy and wouldn't steal a parcel, but the driver doesn't know that. A family member's neighbour used to take in parcels all the time and deny they were delivered to him, but that was way back when they didn't specify which neighbour took in the parcel.

I understand that the drivers are under huge stress and pressure with a high workload, but surely the company loses out if they don't deliver safely?

I've started having a few issues with Amazon. Like you I try and plan my deliveries and opt either for my Prime day, or on a day specific to my needs. However, just recently it's being ignored and my items are arriving early. It is happening so often now that I have an arrangement with my neighbour that when I am away they check my drive and front door each evening for left parcels.

Evri, Yodel and DPD tend to just leave them as well, although with DPD we can usually re schedule to a more convenient day. RM are pretty good, our regular postie is brilliant, he even bought a heavy parcel into the house yesterday as I was on my own and he was concerned I wouldn't be bale to lift it. However, when he is on holiday we have posties who will just leave things under the car on the drive- despite me asking RM via their web forms, not to do so.

This was the only person selling what I wanted as a price I was willing to pay. So not really any option to go elsewhere.

The problem is the sizing of the packages.

I use Evri for some things because it is more economical for the size of the box.
If I were to use RM for a box measuring17cm high then it would fall into the medium size category which is quite a bit dearer for a small package so I would probably use Evri for that parcel.

Well, folks, looks like we are definitely  not getting a service from all these companies if all your opinions  are common and multiple  by the thousands that must be experiencing  the same level of service.
Thank you all for your reply.

We had a massive box (wife could fit in it) delivered a while back, typical Amazon, it only had a drill bit in it and 30m of packing paper (not something I'd bought but what they added to fill the box). Was delivered by DPD rather than Amazon though, they left it on our doorstep but it was ok because they put our door mat on top of it so clearly no one will have noticed it.

    Hello
I've noticed talking with others and by my own experience  that delivery drivers are now just leaving parcels on people's doorstep even when they  are without any front garden.

Do these companies  have a minimum  duty to make sure that peoples deliveries  are safely  delivered?
Assuming its a purchase from business and so covered by the CCR then its the sellers problem until the parcel comes into your personal possession but agree I'd rather the first parcel was safely delivered than having to wait for a second to be sent as the first was nicked.

Just like every property tends to have a letter box, through which letters can be securely delivered, I suspect that we will all need to eventually install some sort of secure parcel delivery point in our homes.

I have a letter box. It would be lovely if Royal Mail managed to use it once in a while instead of slinging my post in the porch contrary to their own guidance.

From a seller's point of view, it would be good to have the option to only deliver to click and collect locations and avoid the doorstep nonsense altogether
You have the option to use a delivery company who doesn't dump packages on doorsteps, random gardens on the same street, or wheelie bins containing dirty nappies etc.  As a seller, the responsibility for delivery is yours.  I know even Royal Mail and Parcelforce employ the occasional people with very low standards, but if you can't trust the delivery service, don't use them.
