Standing orders are never paid at weekends or bank holidays

The bottom line is that the LL's financial difficulties are not your concern. And he cannot charge you excessively for late payment - perhaps 3% for 2 days? Read your tenancy agreement. That would be peanuts. Any excessive charge could be challenged..
Doesn't the Tenancy Fee Act limit this to BOE rate + 3% but only if its 14 days late?

    BOE is currently 5.25% so thats 8.25% x £2200 / 365 = £0.497, so ~50 p a day after 14 days.

OP, in general I understand there's a point at which LLs need the income to service the cashflows, but that point is not 2 days. They should be able to survive a few months. to cover large repairs, voids, etc.

I'd have to refer back to the TF Act but you are probably right.
But the basic point is the same.
The LL is claiming late payment 'will cost him a lot', perhaps implying it will also cost the T 'a lot'. Whether the extra cost to the T is based on the tenancy agreement, or the Tenant Fees Act, it will cost the T peanuts (if anything).
And the LL should not be using emotional blackmail or threats of high late payment fees just because his own finances are in a mess.

Agree with others, LL issues are not yours.
you seem to have a ST order in place.
if for banking issues, there is a 1-2 business days delay once in a while, this is just reality.
If your LL has such massive stresses because of such known-unknown delays, he is either operating irresponsibly or is bullying you.
    both unacceptable.

if you constantly pay 1-2 days late, then you were wrong.

Compensation for what loss? Sounds more like your landlord should be compensating you for pointlessly hassling you.

Are you actually speaking to Barclays? It's a Sunday - what kind of banking are you expecting to happen. Did you speak to your landlord?

You need to stop worrying about this and next time pay your rent a few days early so this doesn't happen again.

Ask your ll to communicate in writing only. When the payment is made it will be back dates. There is no issue, it's not late. Block his number.

Thanks this is actually a very good suggestion.

I know my LL is stressed he told me he is losing hundred’s every month since the intest rate went up so much and all this time he thought the BOE would lower rates back to near zero.

I think the truth is sinking in we are never going back down to those emergency near zero interest rates again.

he is getting into all kinds of financial trouble and this late payment is going to cause him a lot more problems

He is still driving a nicer car than me, maybe he should sell that and pay off some of his interest payments
