Anyone else has a weirdly slow opening process?

Whenever I’ve opened current accounts online, the result has been instant.

I got to the end of the Co-op online process and basically got a ‘thanks’ message and the promise of further communication.

    No email.

Three days later a letter arrives in the post, featuring a sort code and account number, but saying my account would be open ‘soon’ unless they need anything else from me or decide to decline it, at which point they’ll write to me.

If they do open the account, the next I’ll hear is the card arriving in the post.

    huh?

Seems very slow and fussy to me. Shocked I haven’t even got a single email from them confirming my app.
Completely pointless, either tell me I have or haven't an account opened, not a maybe letter.

Yes I experienced this too, I got a maybe letter in the post, then an email saying the account details were ready so I registered for online banking.
My card arrived yesterday and to my surprise it had a sticker on it saying if you want to use this card online you have to ring up and set a password 🤣, I thought Ulster was in the dark ages when it came to switching but I think the co-op are up there too! Still, now it’s set up it should be plain sailing from here 😄.

Wow, Co-op does look to be slow. I put in a request to switch my Nationwide Flexdirect account to them and was offered 9th of July as the earliest day for switching. Then got 2 pretty much useless confirmation emails to say the application was approved "subject to a few formalities".

My experience from the offer in Jan is that you can do some types of online transactions without registering the card. I made a few payments to my energy provider at the time (Octopus) and also bought a few £1 Amazon top ups online without issue. Couldn't make a payment to my Amex though.

As for the account opening process, it feels like they process things manually, which could explain why different people report things happening differently, and why the process doesn't seem consistent. And also why it is taking longer than normal right as they announced a popular switch incentive offer. Ultimately, I found it was very slow but it got there eventually.

I got the same when I applied.. I've open many accounts online and have always had virtually immediate confirmation that the account is open and available. I can't understand why the Co-op can't do the same. Also, as you say the emails received are a waste of time

Need to phone them to set up an online account! Starting to wonder if my statements will show pounds, shillings & pence.

Got my card in the post last week but still awaiting pin number...

I've registered for online banking etc but how can you see your card details on the app?

My switch does not complete until early July but was going to try the £1 Amazon top up with my card, to see if it works without me having to call them....

If it does I will just do this 10 times a month to get the incentives...

You don't need to call them, the card works without needing to do so including on Amazon.

Just used my Co-op debit card to pay £1 into my NS&I account online, with no need to register the card.

Can I make a few £1 deposits into my NS&I account on the same day does anyone know, like people stand at the checkout with their 10 carrots, lol?

As you get a transaction number for each debit transaction, they should show up as ten separate payments?  I'm guessing the main issue could be using the same card multiple times, triggering a security alert with the Co-op, NS&I?
