The T&C for this one explicitly exclude current account holders. Were the previous Co-Op offers also excluding them?
It depends how you interpret that the offer is only available for new current account customers. Do they mean new customers who open a current account or existing customers (who perhaps have other products with Co-op) who open a new current account?

The eligibility box in the second post of this thread reads "not hold an existing current account with The Co-operative Bank or smile" there is no room for interpretation.

Where in the terms does it say "not hold an existing current account with The Co-operative Bank or smile"?

You first said that the T&Cs explicitly exclude current account holders. Then you say an eligibility box says this but don't quote where it says this in the terms (which is what are used in the event of a dispute).

I quoted the terms which say that "this offer is only available for new current account customers who apply for a Standard Current Account, or an Everyday Extra account". There is plenty of room for interpretation.

    Dreadful experience with Co-op tbh:

    1. Waited over a week to find out if I’d even been granted an account (confusing ‘maybe’ letters - see my earlier post)

    2. Turns out my switch request wasn’t received despite me doing it as part of the application - only found out when I messaged to ask when my switch date was

    3. Told to ring them to re-request a switch: limited opening hours for phones, and message says the wait is 30+ minutes (which I don’t have during a working day)

    4. May not even get the switching incentive as ten days have passed since the account was opened

Pretty rubbish - I’ve made a complaint to see if that gets me anywhere

I didn't get any notice about my switch (the one I selected during the application) until it actually started, and that was from the bank I was switching from. Co-op did eventually text me as well, but was a bit into the switch.

I'd imagine the bonus incentive should be fine, the co-op switch page literally says you have 28 days not 10
This same thing happened to me. I’ve spent five plus hours on the phone trying to resolve it to date. Staff are helpful but clueless and pass to others to have to start again. Been hung up on once for no reason and I don’t hold out hope to get the incentive without further calls. Phone waits are long. Unimpressed at this point and will not be holding the account for long.

Now I am very confused. Here https://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/products/bank-accounts/switch-and-save/ it says "To switch and be eligible you need to:" and one of the points is "not hold an existing current account with The Co-operative Bank or smile".  Are you saying that one can simply ignore this?

You made the above statement, but when I ask you to show me where in the terms it says this you keep pointing to something that isn’t the terms, but rather something written on their website, someone’s interpretation of the terms, those same terms that you say that there is no room for interpretation.

The terms are the legalities of the offer, like a contract, probably written by their legal department, used in the event of a dispute. When you tick a box at the end of your application it is that you’ve read and agree with the terms, not that you’ve read and agree with an eligibility box.

No, but neither should you use it as a replacement for the terms.

I’ve got a credit card with co op which works fine. I applied for a current account three or four times over the last year or so hoping to qualify for an incentive but was rejected each time with non helpful ‘reasons’ . Their App is basic functionality and they’ve even managed to stop me being able to use biometrics to log in, I have to use the six digit log in number. Clearly they don’t have the money to invest in themselves, maybe it will improve if they are taken over by CBS, hard to imagine it won’t.

I used to have five Coop current accounts several years ago receiving TCB cashback and the quite good co op rewards, all gone now.

I believe the real reason I get constantly rejected nowadays by Coop is because of my accounts in the past although there was no problem in my conduct with any of them. I can’t blame them really but they are out of kilter with the way banks and their customers interact.

So I won’t be applying again! Most of the info in threads about coop incentives is about applicants confusion with terms and conditions. Not worth the brain ache.

Did you get rejected even for the Cashminder (basic) account? If so, your suspicion is probably correct and there's some kind of flag against you.

I only applied for the standard current account. I’ve applied for over a hundred current accounts I guess and only ever been turned down three times, all coop in the last year or so. The first time it was ‘because of something on my credit report’ and advised me to look it up with Equifax/clearscore. I thought 987 out of 999 score was quite good and there were no red flags or problems I could see!
So they just wasted my time with obscure false ‘reasons’. I’m blacklisted for sure.

I doubt you're blacklisted, otherwise they'd have closed your credit card. Co-op Bank use Experian, not Equifax and certainly won't see your credit score so you can disregard that. Can you see if they did actually perform a credit search on you when you applied?
