Not that I'm personally interested in getting any large LCD at present, but what's the significant difference between the Sony KDL40V3000 and the KDL40U3000 ?

I only ask because I noticed the U version in Sainsbury's yesterday for only £599

  • Well, the V3000 is 1080p for a start.

And, having bought a JL clearance one today (for £799) I'm rather chuffed with it, especially now I've adjusted the settings.

OK, no free PS3 but 5 year warranty nonetheless.

The u is the 'basic' model made for supermarkets, next up is V then W then X

    The V-Series:
This is the affordable higher end option. They have always featured picture cleanup technology. The first BRAVIAs used "WEGA Engine", but the new ones use "BRAVIA Engine". The upcoming "V2000" versions also feature the new "Live Colour Creation" backlight, which apparently produces far better colour reproduction.

    The X-Series :
These are the best ones available but only come in 40" and above sizes. They take the features of the V-Series, add full high-def (1920x1280) screen resolution, 2x HDMI inputs, and 2x Component inputs. The picture quality is also slightly better than the V-Series. The X-Series also features BRAVIA ENGINE EX and Digital Reality Creation, which are both included to enhance the quality of the picture specifically for large, high-res panels.

SAMSUNG LE40N86BDX - CAT. NO. 536/3900 (page 843 if you've got the catalogue)

Get JL to match and no need to flog a PS3 !

it isnt a sony but the sony is a samsung..lol!.....sony's use samsung panels, tho in fairness there is more to a tv than just a panel

  • :T A very big thank you to all MSErs on this thread.
I had tried to get this offer with no avail at the end of December but couldnt get John Lewis to honour it despite their stores still offering in various places on the day i wanted to purchase. I formally complained to JL and several very polite emails later they have agreed they were in the wrong and we should have been able to purchase the tv and ps3 as offered in other stores on that day. Because of this they were willing to offer us the deal now, the tv is no longer avilable for JL to obtain though so as a good will gesture they have offered us a free PS3 with out the TV so we may purchase the tv elsewhere and still benefit from this excellent deal.

i have now got to wait til they get pS3s in stock, but as soon as they do i have an order raised on it and it will be sent to me

(managed to pick the tv up in comet for £809 as a mangers offer on saturday so well chuffed, had only been on the shop floor for a week):j

thank you all without the eveidence gathered here i couldnt have done it
    C

Edit... As there is a delay on getting PS3s in at JL they have sent me a cheque instead :j
  • Hi
I got this tv last week but unfortunately I paid £899, no PS3.
I love the look of the tv but there is one thing bugging me.
I hope someone understands what I mean as I am not very technical. I have tuned it in but sometimes when you look at the picture you can see some black and white kind of squares, especially on someone on tv who is wearing black.
Also sometimes when I have the tv guide up on the cable you cant see the little picture on the right hand side properly, not that it isn't big enough, just that the people seem to have this flickering on them.
Having read what I have wrote, I can see that people sill struggle to understand what I am saying but hopefully someone will decipher my rambling.

Thanks and please help, I have tried adjusting the contrast etc.

Where did you get it for £899 if you don't mind me asking?
  • Hi
It was from Electrosaver in Bradford. It inlcuded the 5 year guarentee but unfortunately not the PS3. They sell on the internet as well but always be a little cheeky and see if they will knock anything off.
I got my Dyson from them for 109 pounds.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Collected my PS3 yesterday, having been on order since 30 December. Have Sky+, understand you cannot record programmes on PS3. Have been told to get HDD Recorder/Blu Ray Disc Player. Thought this was part of PS3. Will I be able to sell it at reasonable price to buy the above.....
