This is massively common, search and you'll find same situation with same threats.
As long as you're honest and not lead then there is nothing to worry about.
    Block them and ignore

I will ask them both to stop harassing me and see what happens.  thank you.
If you just block them you won't need to worry.

Emmia  I think you are right, my mechanic said it is worth at least £10,000 but I doubt people have that kind of money to spare, so I sold it for £8,000,  hoping someone will love it as much as I did.
  • I think £8,000 is a fair price. Your mechanic might have been right a year ago but at the moment prices are falling quickly.
Autotrader currently has almost 12,000 vehicles for sale, that's far higher than normal (usually well below 10,000).
    it's a buyer's market, in peak season,I think you've done ok.
Re the cam belt, as others have said, ignore and block.
I hope you get to enjoy some more holidays!

Have a look through the posts here. It's a very common scam. If they contact you again, report them to the police for harassment.

It's the bane of nearly every private sellers life these days.
It's not easy selling a car privately at the best of times, chancers and timewaster are aplenty but there are now people that have turned it into an art form or business model.

Yes there are people that get home with buyers remorse but there are scammers with a plan is to buy and sell vehicles at a profit so will use every trick in the book to cut back the purchase price.

It sounds like you had a nice van that was looked after, even considering it's age.
It also sounds like you listed it honestly so you really shouldn't fret or worry.
They are hoping to p rick your conscious, don't let that be the case.

The last thing they would want to do is spend lots of time and money chasing you.

As already mentioned, make it difficult for them to contact you, so block their number.
If they get through on another number just hang up but keep all the numbers they are using to contact you.
If they repeatedly pester you, report it to the police and give them the numbers they are using.

You have already stated your position about this so do not engage them any further. It won't do your mental health any good and may encourage them if they think you are flustered or wavering. Say no, mean no.

At the end of they day you sold a used vehicle as seen.
You aren't a dealer, trader or vehicle expert.
It's not unreasonable to think that some common serviceable parts would need replacing in the near future as it was a used rather than new vehicle.
Most of all, a cam belt due (or due soon) for replacement isn't actually a vehicle fault, just everyday facts of vehicle ownership.

We have seen threads were a buyer is arguing issues and has placed it for sale on Facebook market place for £1000's more than they paid hoping to bully the seller into an even bigger margin. As has been stated this is common practice.

I begin to wonder if these buyers are employed by We Buy Any Car and the like to scare the public from private selling.

In the worse case scenario (court) you can always imply you reduced the price to account for anything the camper immediately needed.
It was advertised for 8250 and you accepted 8000, so they had the money off to account for the belt change.

there have been several similar posts on here in the past, they always follow this very same playbook - to the point it feels like a planned, established scam.

don't be tempted to pay them anything as a "goodwill gesture" or anything like that.  they will take your money and come back with another issue for more.

Cease all communications, you clearly sold in good faith (for a good price by the sound of it) so they don't have any comeback.
