It's the 15th June today and I've managed 12 NSD so far.
My 3 Spending days were:
Last week- A few bottles of rather lovely wine and some party food to celebrate my daughter getting the job.
This week- £20 spend for a couple of beers and team fees at a Charity Pub Quiz. It was for a local independent cat rescue group, so I don't think it counts as an unnecessary spend 🐱
Today- Haircut, suit and shoes for my son, to make him look presentable for his Leavers' Prom.
I can't believe how expensive haircuts are! Some places wanted £75 😳 as his hair is long. Managed to find a barber who knew how to do emo hair. He did a great job- and for a much more sensible price.
Struck lucky and found new, boxed shoes (still with the original £120 price labels) and Moss Bros 3 piece suit with matching shirt and 2 ties in a charity shop for the grand total of £40 😄
Possibly all corporate donation as they look and feel brand new. We looked in Moss on the way back and estimate an almost identical outfit would have cost about £400 if we bought it all new from there.
He said that some of his female classmates have mentioned spending over £600 on dress, hair styling, make-up, eyelashes, nails, waxing, fake tan, shoes, accessories....
😧
I've posted quite a bit about our year-long project to avoid unnecessary spending. As part of this, we're only buying clothes when our current ones have worn out and need to be replaced, aiming to source second-hand, reused or repurposed where possible.
Yet I can't help feeling like a dreadful mum and a right cheapskate when I think that my boy is going off to Prom in charity shop clothes 😟

Having spent around £200 each on suits for sons' proms plus extras, and watch both become redundant after one wear (one lost weight, the other muscled up), I think your approach is really sensible. Only you and he know where the suit and shoes came from, and he's going to look and feel as smart as those who got theirs from the high street.Worlds_Worst_Superhero said:I've posted quite a bit about our year-long project to avoid unnecessary spending. As a wider point, I admire your project and would love to do something similar, as I could really do with a mindset shift about our spends.
Congratulations to your daughter on getting the job, too.#21 Save £12k in 2025 £24277.35/£200002
