I have been spraying (which seems to work better now there isn't constant rain - I think I have one or two more sessions to do and then I'll have done the whole garden), weeding (endless as we all know) and watering. Not much else. I did accidentally buy some herbs in the supermarket, and need to plant them before they die.
And one of the cats introduced me to the hedgehog a couple of nights ago! I think she was confused by it.2 -
Watering for me, and the arrival of 30 more thirsty garden ready plants. Haven't planted the last ones yet as too hot.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

More watering here (would have worked better if I'd turned the tap on after connecting the hose!), and planting the stuff I bought on Monday. Also another round of weedkilling. Depending on when I finish work tomorrow it'll I may get the rest done then, or on Friday. I think we're due rain at the weekend, so I need to prioritise finishing it.2

Morning all!
We gave in and ripped up the broad beans the other night - they weren't realistically going to produce anything we wanted to eat as the blackfly problem was just too significant, so they have gone into the garden waste bin. The garden waste bin will not be going anywhere for the foreseeable mind you as I haven't yet renewed the collection contract - the longer I can get away with leaving it the cheaper it becomes for the year, and as there is no chance we'll use it to it's full potential, it makes more sense to leave it as late as I can. It's about half way full now, and won't get a significant amount more in it until the tomato and potato tops need disposal.
Our world has mostly been about watering. Oh, and wondering what irritating little critter is digging about in my carrots. I suspect squirrel - might try some pepper sprinkled about and see if that stops the little blighters. If nothing else I'll have nicely seasoned carrots I guess... It's a bit cooler here today so am hoping we might get away without needing to get the hose out again this evening - everything (including the worse looking bits of the grass) got a decent soaking last night anyway.
The lettuce and pak choi MrEH sowed at the weekend are already showing.
Jobs for the weekend - sort out the radish trough and get another lot of those sown.
Rig up something to protect the carrots if possible.
Get the bush beans planted on.
Swear at the borlottis to see if that intimidates them into germinating.
In the front garden, our single nasturtium plant is threatening to take over the world, my hydrangea is on the brink of flowering, and the yellow rose is looking utterly glorious, even if a rather paler colour than I was hoping.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Monty Don was talking about blackfly on Gardener's World tonight, saying to get rid of most of them is to just snap off the top section, and apparently those left won't hurt the beans. Also, someone had planted parsnips & let them flower to attract predators to eat the blackfly...2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Today I've just watered. Too windy to spray, too tired to do anything else!
I have some geraniums to plant, and I need to take the tops off my broad beans - not because of the blackfly, but because they're pushing the top off the net up. The tops are edible, so at least I'll get something from them (there are a couple of pods). I need to work out what to sow in there next.
Hoping to make more progress at the weekend.1 -

Under the bigger window, just in front of the big pot, is an entrance to the cellar (covered with a metal cover) - I think it used to be some kind of meat chute or something as there's a massive stone slab woth a drainage hole in underneath the entrance. On the other side of the cellar, at the back of the house, is a well, but you can't see anything relating to it in that picture 😂
Planning on a bit of garden pottering this weekend. Might do a bit of weeding and start thinking about some new borders to lay out for next year 😊3 -
trying to figure out how to remove all the plants from a pot (very easy) and then all the soil (filled with biting ants) from a large cement pot that may have a crack in it. I may be easily persuaded to dump the pot but will need the strong gardeners to shift it to the bin or kerb.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
