Just as well I came in under budget, my mobile got stolen by pickpocket last night:mad:

Whilst filling up with petrol my phone rang twice, (that means DD calling please call me back I'm not wasting credit calling you:rotfl: ) as I was busy I didn't. went into pay, its one of those mini sainsburys with petrol...(have to be very careful going in there always very tempting to buy what I dont need.) Anyway there were a lot of people in waiting at the checkouts and one young man wandering up and down the isle next to us he joined behind me then left and wandered around the store again.

When I got into the car, pulled over into one of the parking bays and went to get phone ouot of pocket...no phone:eek: looked around car, went into shop to find others had had wallets and cash from back pockets taken:mad:
Someone kindly called my number but not a sound.

Phone has been blocked now and new one should be with me on Wednesday.
I am on a contract for calls but not for the phone. Did find one on Tescos for £15 inc £10 credit and free delivery, so was very pleased with that.
Even if I include the cost of new phone I am still under budget so that makes me feel better.

Sorry rant over, :o feel better now.

ooh rubber chicken we'll be doing that this week as I bought one of the reduced counter yesterday and its going in the oven for tonights roast as soon as the cherry traybake is out of the oven.
one question though - last time I made stock from boiling the carcass and made a casserole from it, but when it cooled it went all conjealed and it really put me off, hence I havent tried since. is there some way of preventing that or am i just a wuss!

just realised i need to go shopping again as we finished the bread and cheese at lunchtime, and nearly out of eggs and flour after the baking. still that should keep us going for a few more days. just hanging in there til the end of the month now.

i make soup from the frame boiled stock and when it goes cold it goes like jelly but goes like liquid again when u warm it up

Thanks Purplevamp. I remember-vaguely, when I used to work at a nursing home-privately run. I was the cook and the owner/manager expected me to use 1& 1/2 lbs of meat or stewing steak, pork steak to serve meals for11 residents and 3 staff. I wouldn't mind but this was back in 1987 and the prices that the residents/patients were charged to stay there were astronomical.
I've got my yellow split peas soaking and haven't got round to making rice pudding, had to take DDs friend back home and drop some clothes and bedding off at the recycling bins. Still deciding what minced beef meal to have for tea.

Annie, so sorry to hear about your phone being stolen, that's awful. At least on a positive note you weren't attacked or injured, I think that would have been much worse, phones are replaceable, people aren't. Keep your chin up.

That would really make it stick to your ribs mmmmmm... The one i do is an old fave -even before i started being tight fisted..sorrry i mean frugal :rotfl: ..the suet pastry version may have to be tried when winter returns ...not that its actually left here yet :p

Sassamac..when you made stock, did you throw all the skin away first? that could be it..
If not then it was probably the gelatine from the bones... sounds like really good flavourfull stuff to me :T ...mine quite often goes like that, but it soon goes runny once warmed up ...

Ditto what Mrsmcawber says, but when it's warmed up and used in dishes it's gorgeous!!!

ive been thinking about a slow cooker can u or anyone else tell me the benefits of one and money saving u can acheive from one?
i dont really cook alot of meat only usually chicken on sundays

    Hi Honeybe,

My slow cooker was a gift last year and I absoloutely love it!! I don't always use meat either and use precooked pulses or peas or lentils along with veg and whatever spices or herbs i've got hanging around. I make a lovely chickpea and lentil curry in it which the whole family love. (let me know if you want the recipe)
Normally I just throw some veg and stock in in the morning and leave it all day - it's perfect because ds1 will eat it as it is and then i just have to mash it for ds2 then Dh and I will have it later on with some chilli sauce added or something!
