ooh rubber chicken we'll be doing that this week as I bought one of the reduced counter yesterday and its going in the oven for tonights roast as soon as the cherry traybake is out of the oven.
one question though - last time I made stock from boiling the carcass and made a casserole from it, but when it cooled it went all conjealed and it really put me off, hence I havent tried since. is there some way of preventing that or am i just a wuss!
just realised i need to go shopping again as we finished the bread and cheese at lunchtime, and nearly out of eggs and flour after the baking. still that should keep us going for a few more days. just hanging in there til the end of the month now.0 -
Well the month is nearly up but mine goes through to the 31st so although I hope I won't spend any more now, I'd better not post my final total until then, just in case we run out something vital! I did a big shop last week as we were running so low, so now I've spent £365.13 (budget was £400) so I should be within budget. Hooray! Well done to everyone else.0

well the month is nearly over and im shocked at how little ive spent. have a little spend to add on for this week but considering we normally spend about £100 per week im well impressed.
Ive learned to look in the cupboards/freezer and see if i can manage to make another meal before i go shopping instead of just going for the sake of it. I think ive actually been 3 times this month. Before i was going about 3 times a week!!!!!0 -

afford, to change the font colour, when you post write the message then highlight the text and click the little arrow next to the blue A with the black bar underneath it and you'll get a box coming up with all the different colours, click the one you want and bingo there you go.0

Lil me Budget for February is £150. Thank you.0 -
Januarys budget was £200 and as i came in under budget at £120.86 Im lowering it for next month.
I think that although February is a shorter month it will be tougher as I dont have as much in the cupboards/freezer after using so much up this month.
But i have learned how to be so much more frugal so lets see what can be done.
Do i alter the page where the results are posted or do you lil me?0 -
Got 800g of minced beef in fridge. How many meals for 4 do you think I could feasibly make (please) without being too stingy, I do have some peppers and mushrooms to bulk it out with. I was hoping to cook in bulk and freeze some for meals later in week. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.
That's about 1.75lb. So if you work on the basis of 2oz per person that's 14 meals!!! Does that seem right to anyone else? Once you've bulked it up with tinned toms, peppers and mushrooms () it may go further. Grated or finely diced carrot is also nice in mince. I once made a meal with 3 frozen dishes of mince: one had peas, one had beans and one had carrots :rotfl: . No-one complained though.
