Can you put me down for this. I'm going for £160 this month for 2 adults and 1 child. It will exclude the feline's expenses. I will try and update my sig although never been known before!

    hi

i'd like to join in too please. i've decided to spend £200 a month for 2 adults 2 children 1 cat and 1 dog.

i'm going to start 3rd jan to 30th jan. like many others should be fairly easy as cupboards fridge/freezer are bursting.

have decided to take out grocery money £40.00 petrol money and dd school dinner money on the 3rd then give my bank card to oh until 31st jan when will take out same money again and give it back to him. have done this before and it worked.

can i ask how you do the signature info and keep it there for everytime you post as i can't work it out sorry to be such a thicko.

    mary

OOh I know this one! :D

Up towards the top right of the screen it says "Quick Links" if you click on or near there a drop down menu appears, and one of the options is "Edit Signature"

You can then put all the info about your challenges and stuff in there to keep yourself motivated and hopefully inspire other people to join in with them too.

I hope that made some kind of sense? :o

    Ok I have a question...

How on earth does everyone "strike through" amounts on their signature? I have learnt today how to get the € sign to appear..so this is my next mission.. if some kind soul could explain..in idiots terms if you can :-)

Hey sweetie. I select the text I want to strike then click on the s with the hyphen through it - and then hit preview sig to check that it's worked! :o:D

Sent DH to do the shopping as I;ve been ill all over Christmas, including 5 month old baby who spent 3 days in hospital with pneumonia. Not the Christmas we thought we were going to have and as a consequence we have nothing in the house for 2 reasons:- A) we thought we would be away until aftr the New Year with family and B) being at the hospital means no time for shopping. So for January we are going for £60 a week but to be honest we just spent £40 todayand still have the rest of the week to go. What a horrible end to 2007!

    Aww honey!

Have a slightly dodgy group hug from all of us at the Grocery Challenge:grouphug:

How's little one doing now? (I've had pneumonia so I really sympathise with the poor little sausage.)

And definitely don't be too hard on yourself on the grocery spending front, it takes a bit of time to get up to speed and you've got enough on your plate without battering yourself for not keeping to arbitrary targets.

Let's hope it all gets better very quickly from here on in.

    Hi everyone,

I am going to try this. I have never done a challenge before. I have never even budgeted before.

There is just myself, teenage son and a very greedy cat.

I spend about £400 per month at Tesco and have never batted an eyelid before reading this forum. I aslo work in a very busy city centre and buy sandwiches etc which usually totals upto £6 per day with coffee etc.

I would like to include all cleaning products and wine in my monthly shop.

Could somebody give me an idea of how much I should really be spending per month.

    Thanks

    Fifi

    Morning everyone

Thanks Jacks... when i tried it that way before it just said strike/strike.... but i have had it explained to me now and can do it :-)... how easily pleased am i lol

Well we dont head home until wednesday and im determined not to shop until hubby goes back to work on the 7th.... so i have sat and remembered what i have in the freezer etc and worked out enough meals to last us..in fact for about 10 days yippee....

so if i can just keep myself out of the shops i will be off to a flying start! I end up going just for a walk and some fresh air and then pick extras up.... well not any more....

Im going to sit today and work out more meal plans and get my book set up so i know what im doing....
I am going to write down every last thing i buy..to see where im spending extras - things like picking up a bottle of water for the walk back from the supermarket etc... they must all add up hmmmmm

hope everyone has a great New Year...off to plan and plot now :-)

  • I'm definitely in again for the start of the year. My month started today till 25th Jan and i'm quite hopeful it can be done for under £200.

Very lucky as parents made us up a VERY large hamper full of my favorite Irish foods (chef sauce, erin sauces, barry's tea and batchelors peas to name a few!!!)
Then had a week in Ireland and bought some extra bits back, so the cupboards are absolutely chocca.
No room for the bottle of Jameson though, might have to despatch that in case it goes off??
I just need to get organised and start meal planning again to make the most of it all.

My personal challenge for 2008 is the 'how long before we have another takeaway?' challenge! We lasted nearly 4 months and had one the week before Christmas. It was awful, £25 down the drain. but you live and learn don't you!

Anyway, I digress, have been without internet for 10 days!!! .... good luck to all with the January Challenge.
