Hi, I am a newbie to all this so bear with me. I have been looking around the forums for ages now and feel ready to join in. I would also like to take part in the grocery challenge, at the moment we are spending approx £380 per month, this is for 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs and 1 cat.
For the first month I am going to try and reduce this to £350 and take it from there.
Good Luck everybody, and thanks for the inspiration.

Hi
Can I join too please???
As this will be our first time budgetting for the month i'm going to go for £220, that's for two of us and two cats and will include all food for us and cats plus cat litter and cleaning stuff and toiletries.
Think i'd better check on the threads for menuplanning, need to get organised this year.
Cheers

You are welcome... i may be going back there in the morning to grab another 10 lol...30 bags should see us through the year :-) -hubby can't leave HM bread alone..and with the way i make it..just a bit of fresh yeast a bit of salt to pay for -each big loaf will come in under 20p a loaf..so he can eat as much as he likes lol
If i get it back in germany it costs over £1 a bag.... so i couldn't resist really ...thats my excuse and im sticking to it :-)
lol good idea stocking up with more, I can just imagine you driving back to germany with all your flour & suppliesHubby is back with the flour & its dated Nov 2008 so we could be picking up some more too!
(nykmedia if you read this as I know you're doing the grocery challenge too, I am going to add on my flour purchases to the £4000 a year challenge on the 1st when it starts just so you know I'm not cheating!)0 -

Another newbie! Please can I join?
We are a household of two - me (23) ad DP (35). No pets, but plenty of debts!
Setting our budget at £180. I haven't added up the receipts from last month what with it being a funny month with Christmas etc but I know I spend too much in Tesco when I just 'pop in' for milk
We both work full time, and mostly take lunches to work with the odd trip to the 'butty van' and Tesco. We've been to Tesco this morning to fill the freezer with '5 for £4' ready meals for quick work lunches, but I would love to stock the freezer with homemade bits. Hopefully keeping up with the Jan challenge will help me pick up more tips from all you experts!0 -
Hello everybody! I've decided I'm going to start money saving in earnest this year and I know that one of my big weaknesses is spending money on food, 'buying as I go' type spending where I'll pop to Co-op on the way home from work and get that night's dinner.
I'm shopping for two of us, we don't eat breakfast but we take sandwiches or salad to work (unless we had something like spag bol the night before, in which case it's leftovers!) and have an evening meal. I've tried searching on here but can't seem to find something - what do you all think is a reasonable amount to be spending? I don't know exactly what I spend at the minute but I know its far too much!Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...0 -
Hi Silaqui & welcome - well for 2 of us, we were spending £160-£170 a month. With planning and not too much suffering in 2007, we are now down to £130 a month average. This has made big savings over the year! We batch cook more and plan better. We also eat breakfast and make lunches for work out of that money.
In my mind, I try to spend £25ish per week, so that I aim to spend less than £130 a month, in 2008 I will stick to it more! Hope this helps...MFW #185

So, I need to get back on track and will go shopping on 2nd January.
I am setting my target back to £150.Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Hello everyone, good luck with your challenges in 2008.
I'm using delay tactics in this challenge, too, by using up whatever I can for as long as I can. My actual budget is £120 per month so, if I manage to come in underbudget in January, there are plenty of other uses for what's left overOff to look for the forum that challenges you to use up what's left before buying any more but am looking forward to keeping up with everyone on here in 2008. Wish I had found these forums last year LOL
I reserve the right not to spend.
