I've just registered, but have been reading the site and forum for a few months now. Put some money saving tips into action, but need to make a big effort in 2008. Thought I would start with the grocery challenge.
Got lots of food in, need to do some planning and creative thinking, so want to set our budget for 2 adults and 2 children at £200 for month. Not sure how realistic this is, but we'll give it a go. Thanks for all the ideas and I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead....0 -

Welcome galacticgreen  I am sure you will be fine, but it will prob take a few months for you to work out what works and what doesn't - changing fresh supermarket milk to longlife packs worked for us, as well as things like downshifting toothpaste to supermarket brand, and a downshift in tinned goods. I also stopped buying so much cereal and replaced with porridge oats instead especially in winter (5 tablespoons, add milk, heat for 5 mins, add any topping). Buying beef joints when on sale and cutting into 2 or 3 portions works wonders too as then we freeze them and we get 3 meals instead of 1 that we used to waste...MFW #185

Sent DH to do the shopping as I;ve been ill all over Christmas, including 5 month old baby who spent 3 days in hospital with pneumonia. Not the Christmas we thought we were going to have and as a consequence we have nothing in the house for 2 reasons:- A) we thought we would be away until aftr the New Year with family and
being at the hospital means no time for shopping. So for January we are going for £60 a week but to be honest we just spent £40 todayand still have the rest of the week to go. What a horrible end to 2007! Here come the girls....100% Gorgeous!!!0 -
Oh and our freezer defrosted in the middle of the night too so we've lost a lot of food that was in there. Do I sound miserable or what? Here come the girls....100% Gorgeous!!!0
