OMG, I am SO angry with OH.

Recently, we have found our larder to be a bit damp, so we cannot store stuff like flour, sugar etc in it. I have re-homed the sugar and coffee, but as yet have no space for the flour - but its alright, because it will just sift out. However, OH has just gone to use the flour and because he was too stupid/lazy to sift it - he chucked it out. Of course, this sent him into a fit of rage because he could not make Yorkshire Pudding and has now chucked out half the food in the larder - including loads of stuff that was not a problem!!!!  . And while he was busy doing this, he did not notice that he was burning the dinner - so now THAT has gone in the bin too - 2 joints of beef and about 2 kilos of potatoes. I could easily have made mash out of the potatoes, and the beef could have gone on sandwiches. For Gods Sake!!!!

So, as soon as he gets paid, he can give me £50 straight off as that is what he has just thrown away. He can also pay for the takeaway that we will now be getting tonight (we have guests for dinner, but now no dinner to give them!)
They are usless arn't they!! Must agree with Mollymops being without one has its advantages:rotfl: Well enjoy the takeaway and make him pay in more than financial ways!!

Blairweech that's terrible!!! Like the others said make him pay (financially at least). Please try not to give him the satisfaction that you are annoyed/upset about it. He was the one acting like a numpty!!! What is it with men, In my experience they are either calm or in a rage-nothing inbetween, Mine either under reacts or over reacts!!! Hope you manage to have a lovely evening with your guests. (((hugs))) to you too.
Small tip. Why don't you sit down and try to relax with a very large alcoholic beverage!!!

    Heck Blairweech

He doesn't do things in halves does he !!!! Im glad my hubby would never dream of touching anything belonging to the kitchen ;)

In future could you stand your flour bags inside carrier bags on the shelves to keep them dry ?- i know it doesn't look great, but that is what i do as my storage shelves for all that kind of stuff is in a room in our basement and as its next to the laundry room..i thought i was the best idea.
Or what about one of the tall plastic swing bins? just stack the bags in there -could even line it with a bin liner just to be sure -i used to do this one when i got flour by the sack ;)

Hope you enjoy your takeaway..order something suitably extravegant -as hubby is paying -that might teach him :rotfl:

How annoying they can be! My other half is currently working away from home so seems to be jamming all the dumb, stupid, annoying stuff that he would normally spread across the week into the weekends when he is home.

Anyway, we have had a bad weekend - we were out during the day yesterday and ended up eating out and then I was feeling ill yesterday evening so didn't feel like cooking (and my hubby, who has just told me about the meals he cooks while he is away, informed me he doesn't cook) so we had chinese delivered in the evening. I decided, if it possible to change to the weekly budget as, with our financial budget starting so late in the month, our totals won't be available until way after everyone else. Supose I better update my sig, but it rankles!

"As for chickens, happy chickens and all the rest of it. I will say never pressume a butcher buys in free range/happy chickens."

I agree. Yesterday when I asked my usual butcher if his chickens were free range he said they weren't but they could be ordered in. (dread to think what price they would be). So I went to another butcher nearby who admitted the chicken drumsticks I was buying werent free range but they came from a local farm and that they werent as intensively farmed as the ones on tv recently. I am a little sceptical and will check out my local farm shop when I'm next passing.

thanks to the people who have given me ideas for the chicken pie filling. Will definitely try them.

I am pleased because yesterday and today were NSDs and I only spent £3 on Friday buying a bit of salad and coleslaw to take to DD2's with the quiche I made. Furniture was delivered to her new flat and it all fits and her BF liked my quiche and asked for the recipe!

Made leek and potato soup with leftover leeks when I got home from Brum and there was enough for me and OH to have for lunches on Monday.

Today we had roast beef with all the trimmings. I made batter for yorkshires using 1 egg - but it is really too much for two of us so I made 6 individual yorkshires and we ate two and I put the rest in the freezer. I have done this before and they defrost ok - I just popped them in the oven frozen for 10 mins. I also made double the quantity of gravy and saved some for later in the week when we will have the remaining slices of beef heated up in it and served with mashed potatoes to which I add a good helping of chopped parsley (also from frozen as a bunch is too much to use at once and it freezes really well). We will have the beef cold with jacket potatoes and the rest of the coleslaw and salad on Monday evening. I know it's not sticking to the no carbs after 5pm rule but it's really hard to find alternatives and so I am just cutting down on portion size. No complaints from OH and we both lost a 1lb this week!

Back to work tomorrow and nearly half way through the month! I can't wait for it to be over as I really hate January! Spring is round the corner!

Forgot to say that in between reading the posts and writing I have been baking ready for a church tea next weekend, and have made a luscious lemon cake, an economical fruitcake and a big batch of Twink's hob nobs. The kithen smells fab - but will have to keep my OH under control or there won't be any left! I had better make him his 'official' tea so he won't be tempted.

In case anyon'e interested the 'Economical Fruit cake' recipe is as follows:

    8oz SR flour
    1 level tsp mixed spice
    1 level tsp cinnamon
    4oz butter or soft marg
    4oz granulated sugar
    8 oz mixed dried fruit
    1 large egg
    1/4 pt milk

Sieve the flour and spice together. Rub in the fat to make breadcrumbs and stir in the sugar and fruit. Make a well in the centre and add the egg which you have beaten in the milk. Stir to a soft dropping consistency. Place in a greased 2lb loaf tin and level the mix. Bake for 1hr to 1hr 15 mins at 180C or gas mark 4 in the centre of the oven. (You might need to cover the top for the last 20 mins or so if your oven is hot). This cake freezes well. enjoy!

PS You can use any combination of dried fruit - I used up some old currants and sultanas and rasins - I don't buy it ready mixed as it it more expensive I think and is less versatile. I also used Flora rather than butter and skimmed milk to make it less fattening!
  • Well I'm not very good at this budget buying thing, still within budget and have most of the stuff I need in till the end of the month but not overly hopeful of making it within target.

Not too bothered as it is my first month trying and considering we spent £850 last month on food/cleaning stuff/toiletries for me, Mr Sparkle and the cat any saving is good! feel sick when I think how much of that food went in the bin because we hadn't bothered using it or how much of it was used to pay for take away.

So far this month we have had a homecooked meal every night(bar last night) and we both feel so much better for it. This could also be down to the fact we no longer smoke £500 worth of cigarettes a month!

Last night we were babysitting Mr Sparkles 8 year old little brother so our planned meal of tuna steaks has been postponed and we spent £13 at the shops buying juice, sweets, breakfast stuff for him(he always has a full breakfast on a Sunday).

His parents bought our dinner last night takeaway of the little bros choice, which unfortunately was burger king. A free meal is all very well but nither me nor Mr sparkle enoyed it and both of us have had very dodgy stomachs today, think we are getting used to having proper food, which is a good thing!

Anyhoo today Mr Sparkles parents went to Mr T before coming to get the whiner and picked up a few bits and pieces for us which they then refused money for so free shopping woohoo, got lentils, veg for soup and some bread so that's good.
