I'm doing pretty well - got £30 left out of the budget till the 25th but bulging freezers/cupboards, so I only really need milk, bread, fruit and veg.

Today is going to be soup day. Have got a chicken carcass in the fridge and I think my housemates would like it to move....

Finally gave in and bought the younger cat some food (after feeding him on the dregs of an old box of cat food that I found in the cupboard this week!). Bless him, he's so pleased!

Spent a grand total of ......£1.20 yesterday! Which makes my spend £62.32, which leaves me with £57.68 to last until the 28th ish.

This was spent on my local market on choccy biscuits and 4 packets of peanuts for OH's packed lunch. They are slightly past their date but it won't kill him. (note to self, must try harder:rolleyes: )

Meal planning has worked really well for me this week. The big triumph was my chicken and mushroom pasta bake. Cooked it on tuesday night and we had it for tea on wednesday and lunch on thurs. I used a tin of mushroom soup, some frozen mushrooms and some of the chicken out of my slow cooker on sunday. It was yum!!!!

Well done to everyone else this week!
Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

    Afternoon everyone :D

Its great to see how everyone is doing -and all the hints, support and encouragement is just brilliant :T

I popped into a supermarket today -hubby wanted some beer -(which he pays for -it doesn't come out of the house keeping ;) ), anyway i went for a wander and came out having spent not 1 single cent ....it was deffinitely a  moment. I could almost hear all you folks following me around the aisles asking me "do you need that?" "is it worth it?" "what do you want that for?":rotfl:

The even greater shock was hubby -who will insist on getting his beer from the NAFFI -even though his fave beer is available and a lot cheaper at this one particular supermarket  .... anyway to here him say "im off to JIBBI to get some beer" was quite a breakthrough.... so HE DOES listen sometimes :rotfl: ... so he came away with a crate of 20 X 0.5lt bottles of his fave beer that work out at 19p a bottle :T .....and to top it all of i resisted his offer of stopping off at the NAFFI to get a magazine :T -something like good food is about €6-€7  -that will get my milk, potatoes and lettuce on monday -and leave some change ;)

Anyway just wanted to say thankyou to you all :D and i will get off and do some more x stitching now :D

I had to go and buy some veg today because I want to make some of thriftlady's meal building blocks veg bags for the freezer. My total spend so far is £45.08, and hopefully I won't need to buy anything else until next week. I'm still using up what we have in - I don't want to buy too much in especially for the freezer as we are moving on the 24th. This challenge is really making me feel so positive, especially when I have a nsd. In fact it makes me feel better than the anti-depressants do!:j

hi ne girl, how do you make croutons (is it in the oven?):o
I do mine using thick wholemeal bread cut up into small squares and cook in a frying pan with a little sunflower oil. Just toss them until nice and brown and taste to make sure they are nice and crunchy. I've never frozen any as I think they might be a little soggy after defrosting

  • Done a food shop, £86.52 including a bottle of wine  Nearly got enough basics to last two weeks and washing powder etc that we don't need just yet but was on offer - its always the way that when I run out its not on offer!!

We watched Jamie Olivers programme last night, and Hubby has decided that he doesn't need to have meat every evening - finally someone has got through to him lol and he wants to have better quality meat but less often, so will need to sort out some vegetable based dinners yayyy - will be good for his waistline too :shhh:

I love cous cous.Does anyone have any recipes to save me money as I have plenty in my cupboard :)

    Hi molly,
I make cous cous alot as me other half enjoys it.
Make the cous cous up as mormal (you can use stock instead of water as it adds more flavour)
I cook an assortment of veg, usually onions, carrots, peppers, peas and sweetcorn----plenty of colour) i then mix the cous cous with these vegetables. Add garlic powder, a little olive oil and some grated cheese. I then get some large mushrooms and steam until nearly cooked then fill the inside of the mushroom with cous cous filling, sprinkle with grated cheese and bake in oven.
