What was your best and worse career move?

I worked in WH Smith on the photo counter for while and we saw some real horrors
One bloke brought in a photo of his lady friend spreadeagled naked on the bed, and the camera angle was pointing from her feet towards her head so you can imagine what was central to the picture! A few weeks later I spotted that he had an enlargement to collect and.... it was the same picture. Let me tell you, "beached whale" doesn't begin to describe how horrible it was.
Heaven knows how I kept a straight face when he came to collect his order :rotfl:
At least with digital you won't get that now.
Maybe he liked plump chicks.:beer:0 -
Worst career move: deciding to work in IT
Best career move: deciding I was NOT going back to my IT job after the birth of my 2nd child no matter what !!!!
As it happened I was diagnosed with PND only 2 weeks after my ds was born so I didn't have to return anyway.
I would've preferred a very different reason to leave as I'm still on anti-depressants nearly 3 years later but I saw it as "every cloud has a silver lining" from 1 viewpointYou should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

Maybe to get away, a fresh start was best!!:beer:0 -
Best: deciding to do the detached duty that threatened to take me away from my family 5 nights a week for 6 months and deal with the consequences later (it took me away for a total of 7 nights)
Worst: Accepting the subsequent promotion
2nd best: applying for (and getting) a level transfer 6 months later (same grade, same pay, no staff!)0 -

Yes I had this a few years ago...within the private sector. There was always an underlying pressure from my boss to "sell stuff", when my actual job was to "fix stuff".
Best move was to move back into the public sector... working in communicatons/IT... but no pressure to "sell stuff".
Now.. I still work in communications for the public sector .... but I dont "sell stuff" or "fix stuff"... and its fab0 -
Worst move: staying in a job I hated for 5 years so as to have a solid chunk of time on my CV. Don't know how I got through it, but I refused to be bullied out by a twisted manager (he was demoted for different reasons in the end and voluntarily left). However having that time under my belt enabled me to show stickability and to make my ...
Best move: taking my current job where I'm intending to stay until I retire, all things being equal. I've built up the team from scratch and we're about to expand again; we're taking on some of the work from other offices round the world by special request as we've gained a good reputation globally.0 -
The only career move I ever made was to leave home at 18 after my A-Levels and got a job with a college diploma course thrown in. That was 35 years ago. I have worked for the same company ever since and it has kept a roof over my head, put food on my table, allowed me to get married and raise a family, and sent me around the world for free.
It's also a job I love. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=4b1_1179420632
You should try the first bit, the rest is easy.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks0 -
Worst job, was the one with the female boss who had a chonic coke habit, she was fun to work for:rolleyes:, even when she was wrong she was right usually at 1000 MPH!
Best was becoming an Instructional Designer in Medical Informatics & Education, near vertical learning curve, but the first job that actually challenged and interested me0 -
Best.... Getting the job of my dreams straight out of uni...
Worst... moving to swansea....You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....
*I have done reading too*
*I have done geography as well*0 -
worst and best - leaving 6th form before sitting my a levels. Would have meant Uni and a different 'career path', but that would also mean I wouldn't be where I am now with a beautiful family around me.
Only have regrets if you are comletely unhappy where you are, because every decision you've ever made (good or bad) has contributed to your current situation
OMG - I've just realised.... I've posted a serious reply on one of phil's threads...... is it christmas or summat?:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0
