  • No, mortgages don't count as a bill for cashback. I think they list what is counted in their T&C's.
  • Hi all,

First time (possible) switcher. Currently have an incredibly old RBS current account which does nothing for me and looking quite hard at this. Wondering if there is anything to "watch out for" beyond the info on the account page such as the £3 monthly fee, £500 monthly and x2 Direct Debits?

My plan is to switch to this and close my RBS account (or leave it dormant. Does it mattter?). Put £4000 in immediately and put any interest/additional savings into my Santander savings account now at 4.20%(if I recall correctly) interest. I'm unsure if I can have the current account, the 7% and my existing 4.20% savings account all at once.

Silly question for sure, my mortgage is a direct debit. Would Santander recognise this as a bill? It's not a limiting factor, however would negate the £3 fee entirely.
Your RBS account will close as part of the switch. You can have both savings accounts, and the current account open at once. I currently have 3 savings accounts and a current account with Santander.

You can have Edge Current, Edge Saver & any other existing Santander savings accounts at the same time.

I've currently got Edge Current, Edge Saver & other Santander savings accounts, I've also got an Everyday Current Account.

In addition you can get cashback on bills etc & even more cashback with Santander Boosts.

Firstly the old current account has to be closed as part of the switch, this is done automatically on the day the switch completed.

Put £4000 in immediately and put any interest/additional savings into my Santander savings account now at 4.20%(if I recall correctly) interest. I'm unsure if I can have the current account, the 7% and my existing 4.20% savings account all at once.
4.2% is a poor interest rate, I would put the interest in a higher paying account. For better easy access accounts there is a detailed list on moneyfacts

I'm unsure if I can have the current account, the 7% and my existing 4.20% savings account all at once.
You can have all of them. I currently have 2 current accounts and 3 savings accounts with Santander (including all of the ones you mention).

Does anyone know if part of the switch requirement is to enter debit card details? (no longer have one for existing account)

Would someone switching from a 123 account to Edge be eligible for the £175 switch offer?

Can't see any mention of this in the T&Cs.

You need to use CASS to qualify for the incentive. Converting your 123 account to an Edge account by itself won't meet the terms. You also can't use CASS to switch between accounts at the same bank. So in either case you need to switch a non-Santander account to qualify.

    Thanks for clarifying, appreciate it.

I am switching to the Santander Edge from an existing current account which has 2 direct debits already. The wording of the incentive deal suggests I have to 'set up' two direct debits (amongst other things).
I'm doing this through CASS and I know the existing DDs will transfer across, but do the qualify or do I have to set up 2 new ones?
    Thanks everyone.

Also wondering this, can anyone help? You can't seem to chat with a human on Santander unless you already have an account, so I can't ask them to clarify.
