Also why is Barclays telling me about NatWest shares, so confused.🤔

Sounds odd, can you share a screenshot, redacted of any personal data obviously?

I had the same. Main body of text from their email reads:

The government is planning to sell its stake in NatWest to the general public via a share offer this summer. These offers usually enable you to buy shares in a company at a discount, so the NatWest share offer is expected to be popular with investors.

We're still waiting for the government to confirm the sale and announce the details. Once they have, it's likely that the offer will be launched soon after, and that it will only be available for a limited time. If you might be interested in investing in the NatWest share offer, you can keep up-to-date with the latest news and find out how to take part by registering for our email alerts.

Sadly I can't do screenshots as its banking app but can take not so great pictures using another device 😁

Yes, the intention for the government to offload some of its NatWest stake via a retail sale was announced in the last Budget, but no idea why Barclays would decide that their customers need to be (re)informed of that via the app, or email!

So sign up link for Barclays email updates is https://pbwmcommunications.barclays.co.uk/natwestshareoffer?#your-details you complete that then you get a thanks for signing up thing, then also it then advertised Barclays investment service.

(A further sign up thing which I didn't do, just the email updates)

I'm guessing Barclays are doing some kind of offer in regards to shares but not given any details?.

This might be stating the obvious but here goes.

They would need to use Barclays share dealing service to buy the Nat West shares. Does the OP already use the share dealing service?
If not do they want to?
Or are there other potentially better share dealings services out there? Edited to add will these other services also offer the Nat West share?
To me it looks like a way for Barclays to increase the products used by its customers.

Perhaps Barclays will act as an intermediary to manage the sale?   More (vague) information here: https://www.barclays.co.uk/investments/natwest-share-offer-faqs/

I've never had this thing come up in app until today, very confused why Barclays would advertise another banks shares.

I thought has my app been hacked or have Barclays taken over NatWest Group🤷🤣

With me I assume they want me to sign up to their investment platform. I'll take their updates and then explore options once the offer is open, assuming the sale to the public will be at something of a discount
  • Natwest/RBS invest only offers risk variants of in-house managed funds and not individual stocks, which is why I imagine they're not offering the shares themselves.

I signed up for the Barclays thing anyway for updates/info, but have no intention of opening something with them and paying higher platform fees than I already pay elsewhere. Putting my cynical hat on, I imagine there's a recent internal Barclays marketing campaign intending to increase numbers on a mailing list.
