It doesn't seem to matter what channel I use it takes an age and numerous refreshes of the network list to to get our connection to show up and then for it to connect. Once connected it is fine, no problem it is getting connected in first place that is problem.

Could be due to interference from a variety of other local devices e.g. cordless phones, video senders, remote surveillance cameras etc. as it's only just started to happen.

Well my problem with the network has worsened.

I have still been having trouble getting the laptop to connect when initially switched on, usually within half an hour it would suddenly connect but tonight it won't connect.

The network is showing on the list, the router is working, can access internet on the PC.

It doesn't seem to make any difference which channel I have it set too, won't connect on any. It also makes no difference as to how near or far it is from the router.

Does the router need an update, could that be why I am having problems?

    Thanks!
  • Have you installed any new hardware/software recently on your laptop that may cause a driver conflict?

What operating system are you using?

Can you see other wireless networks before you see your own?

If you are (hopefully) using wireless security, you could try briefly disabling it to see if it makes any difference.

You could also try updating the firmware for your router and the driver for your laptop wireless card.

    I am using Windows XP.

I have not put on any new software since a good while before it started happening.

I have the network secure so will try disabling and see what happens.

Other networks do appear as well as my own.

Forgot to say I did change the SSID and it made no difference.

Well I have ruled out the laptop having a problem with connecting automatically.

I set it to connect automatically to another network in the area and it connects automatically to that.

So I guess this means it is router problem. If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.

    Thanks!

Which router are you using? What is the wireless mode set to?

The DSL-G604T supports 802.11b only I believe, so ensure that b only is selected on your laptops wireless set-up if you can.

  • ch10 overlaps with ch11 and a little with ch6 btw, try and maintain a 5 channel gap, unless you have so many routers in the vicinity it is impossible.
