Coffee pod machine

I’ve just bought an espresso machine that came with some trial pods. There are different types of pod, some marked espresso, some ristretto, and some lungo. The pods are the same size and contain the same amount of coffee. So, I’m confused as to why they are differently marked?
Can I, for example, make a lungo with a pod marked espresso?

It’s a L'Or Barista, in case that makes a difference.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

There is nothing stopping you doing that, obviously the strength will be reduced but you will still have drinkable coffee.1

Yes, I too have a L'or machine. You can use any pod to make any size of coffee. Find a pod and coffee size you like.1

Once you have used up your free trial pods you will:
- go to supermarket to restock
- say to self "'kin' hell, how much?"
- put machine in cupboard
- buy just about any other bit of kit that makes proper coffee

We recently looked at the Velvetiser. £1.50 per drink2 -
I bought this machine because the pods that came with it cost about 40p each, and the machine was 'free'.
I was previously using 30g of coffee in an aeropress per shot of coffee. I had one aeropress and one mug of instant (with two heaped spoons of instant) each morning. I figured that 40p per pod would be cheaper. However, by 9 this morning, to get a decent caffeine hit, I had used up 8 pods of coffee.
Six shots of espresso in a large cup? Bah!

A Lor coffee pod costs 37.5p each, ground coffee costs around 8-12p per cup, beans that one would grind at home 6-12p, Nespresso pods are 50p or more. The additional initial outlay of an espresso machine would be recovered in 200-400 coffees and would make better coffee (proper crema, not fake) and a cafetiere would be an instant financial win.2

I would recommend you get a non-fancy espresso machine, one with at least 8-9 bars of pressure, then use the coffee of your liking, you will save money and get great coffee.1 -
Again, based on my own experience, the next stage is to convince yourself (and partner, if applicable) that splurging £400 on a bean-to-cup machine is actually money-saving (and helps the planet by not consuming pods or filters).
Makes a damn fine cup of coffee too.6 -
I see you can get refillable pods now; no idea if they are any good1
