A quick question - when you click on your shortcut and open Bing, can you see three dots ...  They are at the top of the page on the right? Do those go vertically or horizontally?

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I do wonder whether you have deleted Chrome from your PC?

As has already been said, Chrome is not a search engine, and Bing is not a browser, so it's quite hard to understand what your issue is.

I have not deleted Chrome.  My issue is clearer now than it was ...

    1.  I accidentally clicked on a box whilst attempting to stop Microsoft pestering me to buy Office 365, and in so doing I seem to have made Bing my default search engine.

    2.  My shortcut to Google no longer takes me to Google.  It now takes me to Bing, despite "Google" now showing in settings as my default search engine.

    3.  All the procedures that I found by doing a Google search (on a Chromebook) on "Google search defaults to Bing" require me to go into settings on Chrome.

    4.  I cannot open Chrome.

"my shortcut to Google no longer takes me to Google.  It now takes me to Bing, "

I don't understand this what do you mean it takes you to bing?

clicking on a shortcut can certainly take you to a browser but as far as I am aware it canmot take you to 'bing'

I am happy to be proven wrong but can you clarify

right-click on the shortcut and choose properties and let us know what program it opens

Microsoft really need to be slapped with another anti trust for this. They were hit in 1999 because of their practices with IE and they are doing it again with Edge.

Just click start and search for default apps. You can set Chrome back to default from their. Microsoft giving you some ball turd about warning you are you sure as Edge is better. Ignore it and say yes.

I don't think it's anything to do with Microsoft...If the default browser solution is not working then you may have been infected with a a browser hijacker. Run Malwarebytes to see if it picks it up.

I have accidentally clicked on something which has replaced my default Chrome browser with Bing.  Google searches on this problem advise to start trying to sort this out by clicking on the three dots top right of a Chrome page.  How am I supposed to do that when I can't open Chrome 'cos Bing has hijacked it?

    Have fun :)

P.S. Try opening Chrome without using your shortcut.
