I have never had a bucket list nor plan to have one.

I have fully retired for 8 months and still enjoying having time to potter about lol!

I am lucky to be fit and healthy. I do some stretching and resistance exercises daily and swim 3 times a week.

I cannot really plan longish trips as I have an elderly relative living with me.

I have never really been adventurous or a risk taker and travel to most parts of the world doesn't interest me.

I will be happy to relax in my garden when the weather allows me to get it sorted.

I have two reunions planned this (one school one university) year, a trip to Ironbridge, a week in Cyprus and a 5 day trip to Malta. That is fine for me.

Some of the things on the lists above look expensive and are beyond my means.

I really miss my two dogs but do not want the responsibility of ownership again. I still walk in the forest and its not quite the same, but the main purpose is exercise not fun.

#Baron_Dale:  Would you be interested in fostering dogs?  Maybe worth an explore.
You'd need to be close enough to a training school, but my last manager was a Guide Dog Fosterer. After the Puppy Walking phase, Fosterers have the dog evening and weekends, deliver it to 'school' during office hours. Sometimes they would take a dog just for a weekend, sometimes for longer, but they could arrange for a longer term dog to go elsewhere for a short period if they needed to. I'm not saying it was an easy way to have a dog, but certainly interesting!

Thanks for your suggestions about the dogs but on balance I think my future will be dog free.
I realised I really do prefer the lawn being green without any brown patches and the house being clean, tidy, with no dog hair! Plus of course clothes that stay dog hair free too.
I also want to be able to go here and there without having to worry about the dogs.
As for fostering or raising a guide dog puppy I would find giving them back far too emotional.
Once again though thanks for taking the time.

Dogs..... far too much planning every time you want to go anywhere.....
And too much addition cost every foriegn holiday....

At least with my cats i can just grt my neigbour to come in twice a day and feed them.....
  • When I had my dogs, paying for them to go into reputable and comfortable kennels (our local RSPCA one is excellent) was never a concern. I just used to worry about them! They more than paid back any monetary cost in sheer love and companionship! On some occasions relatives would happily house sit, which was the ideal solution. Also having two dogs going into kennels was easier for them as they still had each other. They always shared their kennel.

That’s why fostering from a local shelter is ideal. The shelter covers all costs and accommodates them when you go on holidays. Shelters are overflowing and desperate for foster homes whether short term, long term or even just weekends to give some dogs a break from kennels.
