Ha, thank you both!
I have dived in - extremely tedious (I didn't use the comparison sites last year so I had to reset passwords for everything 🙄) but a worthwhile endeavour.
I've only checked separate policies so far - turns out I can't count and 26 days out isn't for another few days 🤭 But one car is coming in around £250, and the other £220 (less mileage), so total of around £470. Considering we paid £825 last year that's a considerable discount! 😱
Not had the renewal quote yet - I assume that will arrive this week, and I shall be VERY interested to see what nonsensical price they come up with!
Haven't even attempted cashback or anything yet - that was quite enough for one day.
Made a tasty cannelini bean risotto, just packing up the rest for tomorrow's lunch 😊9 -
Also had an emailed quote for house insurance from one of the comparison sites the other day (date's changed so it's not due yet) - they were £350-£500 ish, and again, we paid £935 last year, so it seems there are considerable savings to be made and the emergency fund will be looking a lot better soon.
(No bad thing, as we will very likely need at least 1 new car this year).
Anyway, not beating myself up about auto renewing both last year - we were deep in sorting Mr C Snr's house after the flood and just didn't have the headspace.
Makes for a nice feeling of good value this year though 😂11 -
I hope you have given yourself a pat on the back for looking at the car insurances.
Renewing the insurances last year was the right decision with everything else you were dealing with. Was this when the dog was staying with you as well?Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Gosh yes, big savings there @Cheery_Daff! I hope you spend some of the savings on a possibly small but perfectly formed treat?! Onwards and upwards love Humdinger xx4

Thank you 😊 No, the dog had gone by that point, thankfully. I think we all would have struggled considerably more if he'd been around! 😱Baileys_Babe said:I hope you have given yourself a pat on the back for looking at the car insurances.

Ha, we might go out for breakfast 😂 But the bulk will definitely go to the emergency fund - with 2 rather elderly cars and the boiler playing up I will feel more comfortable when it has more than its current £2300 in 😬Humdinger1 said:Gosh yes, big savings there @Cheery_Daff! A small hing that you might count as money saving the other day - my mum sent me a picture of a crocheted blanket kit she'd spotted and asked if I'd like it for my birthday. I sent back the next one I'd been planning to buy for myself, so she's bought that instead 😊 my birthday isn't for another 3 months but now I've got that to look forward to and don't have to buy it myself 😊
Right, best get on. In the office today, Mr C is off to see his dad and will drop me off on the way so that at least saves us a bit of diesel and parking money.
Oh, and I checked both sets of MOT history yesterday to see how many miles we'd actually done in the cars for the insurance, rather than guessing. I'd actually been pretty close! Big car (the one Mr C mostly uses, and the one we usually go places together in) has done 17k-19k for the last few years (i had it down as 20k), little one that I mostly use if I'm on my own has done 8k-11k (I had it down as 10k). Insurance website reckons most people do 4k-8k so it's no wonder i feel like we're in the blinking car all the time 😬9 -
Yes, the emergency fund is the fire that is not quenched @Cheery_Daff! Love Humdinger xx4

Ooooh, Cheery are you allowed to say which kit? Is it another one by Lucy?
Good work with the comparison sites. We saved big this time too, and got £40 to spend in MrS*, which was helpful 😁

Oh another one wanting to know which blanket you’ll be doing. I’ve just started the new wildshore (I think that’s the one) scallop using some of my hoarded stash. Very easy stitch to work.4
