It may be that the hospital might point you in the right direction too. I don't know what they call them now but they used to I think be almoners. Whilst Mr Cheery Sn is not now, he could become a bed blocker if his home situation is not sorted. The last thing he needs is to be stuck in hospital for a moment longer than necessary. A fortnights spell in hospital for my 87 yr old mother had a terrible effect on her as she became totally dependent after being totally independent.2

Thank you @beanielou @ladyholly @Greying_Pilgrim these are all excellent suggestions xxx Will investigate, hopefully these won't be needed though.
The laminate is being ripped up by other family members today to let the floorboards dry out, and they might take some of the rest of the ceiling down too. Mr C and I are planning to go over for a few days in a couple of weeks and sort out various things.
Not today though. Today we are having a lazy morning, and going out for breakfast shortly 😊 We have friends coming to stay this evening, so a bit of light cleaning is in order (although it's reasonably ok - for us - anyway so I'm mostly going to concentrate on uncomplicated food, and let Mr C have a day off. Going with a pasta bake and salad, this is just pals round for fun, not an elaborate dinner party.
First though, dressed and breakfast.
Oh! And I ordered some recycling bins a few weeks ago, due for delivery yesterday but they didn't arrive. The seller has said if they don't arrive by Wednesday I can apply for a refund. Hoping they actually turn up though as I need them!
Also need to ring my own dad (it's his birthday today)
And chase Useless Halfords, who have gone very quiet after asking me what refund I considered appropriate - I said 50%, a mere £90 which I didn't think was unreasonable considering the inconvenience, but I've had no response since other than an answerphone message saying 'has anyone contacted you about this yet?' ' I emailed back and said no - but had no response to that either! So at the minute I don't even have the paltry £18 they offered in the first place!
First though, dressed, ring dad, breakfast, then cooking, cleaning, pottering 😊7 -
Very glad Mr C Snr was not there when the ceiling collapsed and Mr C did not get hurt turning on the electrics! What a pain..
I have lived on my own and do feel safe but I do have locks on the door etc. Have you considered getting a dog as even the little ones eg Maltese etc are brilliant alarms so noone can creep up on youDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Ha,the last thing we need right now is another being to be responsible for! 😮😂
Remembered last night that I never replied to the LPG people about replacing the metal pipework for the tank. Going to take their offer of doing it themselves - they'll need to inspect it anyway so there should be minimal messing about that way. Can't remember the quote, around £750 i think.
Also had the car insurance renewal quote today - increased from £606 last year to £835 this year 😮 No reason - we've only ever had one claim (I reversed into a parked car trying to do a hill start when I'd not long learned to drive, back in 2006). The age of the cars probably doesn't help (they're 16/17) but overall we're pretty low risk.
So now it's time for car insurance comparison! Yippee - one of my favourite activities 😬🙄7 -
Urgh to the car insurance comparisons Cheery. That's poor on the renewal price. By some miracle, despite the pending claim we have, our renewal went down (and was approx £200 less than the alternatives had come up with), so we've bitten their hand off! Mr MV did have the Aviv4 app on his phone monitoring his driving for 60 days, which we think brought it down. Worth considering for you? I think a lot of companies offer similar and they promise not to increase the premium, just lower it if you're considered a good driver. I imagine the miles you do bumps up your costs - not a lot you can do about that without major changes!

Mine doubled last time. I checked around & I could have got it a few pounds cheaper but the cover didn't seem the same. At least it is fixed for 3 years when I expect it to bang up again as I will be 80 by then.

Ooh, a three year fix sounds like a plan! I've never seen one before though.
@themadvix will investigate the app. I never feel like we do that many miles compared to some... but we certainly do a lot more than we used to. Must check the MOTs for accurate mileage this time round - it will have increased a fair bit in the past year or two especially.
Day bed has been delivered - this is the one we spotted in a charity shop a couple of weeks ago. Looks pretty new, we got it for £140 including delivery (although I did end up dismantling it in the garden and carrying it in myself because it wouldn't fit through the door). Need to re-mantle it this evening 😂 and then I can start the Happy process of using up my fabric stash making cushions for it 😂 It'll be in the background of my online work meetings when I'm working at home, so it needs to look like a sofa rather than a bed, and it will also bring me joy being able to see something cheerful behind me 😊
Mr Cheery has gone to a band practice, so I have the house to myself for the evening. However, I do still have work to do, at least a couple of hours worth. I started late today ad I was so tired. Aiming to not go past 7.30.
Big car goes to the garage again tomorrow. I'm in the office for the next 3 days then off on DIY duty - Mr C's friend (and ex girlfriend) has offered to come and help with Mr C Snr's house at the weekend - we have very gratefully accepted. She's very practical, and between the 3 of us we will get plenty done. There's a skip there at the minute.4 -
Anyway, a list for after I finish work this evening:
* put bed together (and I've just realised we took the 2nd spare single duvet to Mr C Snr's house and it got ruined in the flood, so we'll need a new one at some point - will just put a folded double on for now)
* washing
* blog post
* bit of flute practice
* shower
* yesterday's Call the Midwife
* IPL machine
Doesn't really matter if none of that gets done (except I do want to wash my hair tonight), priority is finishing work at this point, got stuff I need to be ready for tomorrow!4 -
We always have a duvet at least one size bigger than the bed so you can get cosy without the problem of gaps for cold air to attack you 🥶Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
