Hurrah for tracking down “lost” funds and for things not being quite so squeaky as they at first looked. Double hurrah for Mr C Snr sounding far perkier than it originally sounded as though he may be, and also for Mr C himself having dodged a NYE A&E trip - nobody wants one of those!I’m right there with you on sometimes circumstances meaning that if we are fortunate enough to be able to do so, expenditure just needs to be moved from wherever rather than having to be accurately allocated from a specific fund or pot. I did precisely that with the spending that arose around the funeral we attended right before Christmas - the hotel and the meal with our pals on the evening before were just covered from joint account surplus in the end. Bluntly, we have emergency funds for a reason - and that spending, and indeed yours relating to the impromptu hospital visiting trip could certainly come under the heading of “genuinely unforeseen” could it. Go us for ensuring that such eventualities are covered!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Glad you managed to get through a difficult NY and hope Mr C snr is recovering
I am with EH 'Emergency funds' are exactly that - for when unforeseen things happen and then at least you dont need to stress about money on top of the actual situation..

Thank you lovely people xxx
Nowt much to report here. We have been snowed in since Saturday 🙄 Well, we almost certainly could have got out on Sunday, and Mr C wanted to, but I persuaded him not to as we were due some freezing rain, which then never arrived. We did have more snow overnight on Sunday though, and then yet more last night. We'd planned for Mr C to visit his dad today, dropping me at work on the way, but there was a bit more snow overnight, so he went back to bed.
Might attempt it at lunchtime today though - the roads seem pretty good now. The only risk is if it snows again later, which it might do, we risk not being able to get home.
Big car is due at the garage tomorrow - I was sceptical about my chance of it driving all the way there anyway but it'll be worse if the weather's bad.
Rather bored of this now. I'm happy just hankering down and not going out, but Mr C is getting cabin fever, and also wants to see his dad. I think he'll pop to town for a sanity break today even if he doesn't want to risk getting back late tonight 🙄 I can't be doing with all the decision making!
We're down to a single carton of almond milk for tea now though (yuk) so one of us will need to venture out soon 😂

Oh yes indeed!
Mr Cheery spoke to his dad on the phone, and decided he did really want to go and see him. The roads looked alright on the webcams, but it took us an hour to get him up our (long) drive. We've got all weather tyres on, which deal with a bit of snow fine mostly, but it's uphill, and there was several inches of snow, so it was a bit more tricky...
Anyway, we did it, and he should be arriving around now.
So now I'm snowed in on my own - we've had several heavy snow showers since he left so at least another inch or two I reckon.
Other car is meant to be at the garage tomorrow but at this rate I don't fancy my chances of getting out of the drive on my own, especially not as there's something wrong with the engine (hence why it's going to the garage!) Will see what things are like in the morning.
In the meantime, at least the nasty almond milk is weaning me off my tea addiction a bit 😂

Cheery definitely don't be taking the car out knowing it's got a problem, in such poor conditions! I'm sure the garage will be able to rearrange the booking. That is quite a dumping of snow you've had!
In case it's worth a try when you can get to shops, I'm not a fan of almond mil in tea but I do find oat milk excellent - I've been using the "no sugars" variant.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks 😊 I won't be going anywhere Isle there's a risk, don't worry, I'm very risk averse when it comes to driving! I am willing to put up with almond milk for a while longer. And if I run out of that, I can either walk to the village shop (1.5 hours round trip even without the snow, which is why I haven't bothered yet) or nip to the dairy farm up the road and have a quiet word with a cow 😂
Mr Cheery made it to the hospital without incident, thankfully. He did, however, spend a good 40 minutes in a rage at the car parking payment situation, much of it on the phone to me. I get the frustration - when we were there the other day the machines were playing up, and I still haven't managed to download the weird app. I thought they were going to have to give him a bed so he could have a lie down 😮 All sorted now, thankfully.10
