Cheery's path to fulfilment - finishing the DIY, looking after myself, appreciating the garden 🌻

Morning MSE chums 😊
Hmm, I thought I'd posted last night but maybe I got half way through writing a post and got distracted 🤔
Service done and air filter replaced - and it's like having a new car!! 😱 It's struggled a bit since we bought it, alright once it gets going but I've regularly had to go up hills in 1st gear at 15mph which is a nuisance round here 🙄 It's been to two different garages, and they both couldn't find anything wrong. A year ago the engine light came on, they said it was showing as the air flow filter but they couldn't see anything wrong with it.
Now they have finally replaced it (it was the original) and honestly, I felt like I was driving a different car home! It has the same engine size as the other one, but was always slower - but no longer! I actually took Mr Cheery out for a spin to demonstrate going up a hill in 4th gear 😂
Anyway, an exciting 'new car' bargain at £248 😂 Will need a couple of new tyres before winter, have put in my diary for a month's time.
Into the city again today, YAWN! I always knew I didn't want a long commute every day and this is really embedding that belief 😂 Office first, then dentist to have my stupid denture fitted (I suppose I'll finally have to pay for it!) and then into the town centre for another meeting.
Will need to buy lunch today - I've prepared every other meal in advance this week but just didn't have anything left i could easily bring to eat cold without a microwave today. Bit annoyed with myself but it's been a long week and this is my last day before the weekend.11 -
Anyway, big job has broken out here - Mr Cheery has started shifting furniture in the living room 😱 We shifted some for the windows geezers, and he's just kept going 😂 Getting rid of a couple of big bits of furniture (including that fancy American Organ i posted a picture of a while back, I think) which will make a real difference - they're just too big for the low ceiling rooms we have here sadly. He's staying at home today so goodness knows what the house will look like when I get back.
We have visitors on Saturday so I know there won't be too much destruction as he'll want to be nicely prepared for them.
Right, no parking permit today so best get my act together! I'll be paying today - haven't got time to park further away then.walk to office, then dentist, then town, then back to wherever I parked car. Best get a move on!7 -
That is good about the car & should save on fuel too I think.

Oh what brilliant news about the car, and how frustrating that it was such an easy fix in the end too! enjoy your whizzy uphill driving!
Exciting about windows and furniture shifting too - especially the getting rid of big items of furniture that make rooms look smaller than they are!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Cheery - cut yourself some slack about the bought lunch! You did amazingly all week but sometimes needs must!
I just heard (1/2 hour before we were due to go) that my lunch date might have covid so would rather not pass it along if she does. I'm very pleased that she is so considerate, but as it is my last day in the office before a week off, I have no emergency lunch in the fridge & no instant noodles left in the drawer! Not wanting to be a billy-no-mates I've cancelled our reservation and will wander to the newly opened korean grocery up the road to see what delights they have up on offer! Cities are a lot of fun to be in, but I completely agree, the commute not so much!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Ha, shame we can't meet up for lunch RT! 😂
As it happens I thought to make a smoothie this morning, and effectively to have second breakfast for lunch, so that's what I've done 😂
And as I've just had my new denture plate fitted, a smoothie gives me a nice easy introduction to eating with it in 😂6 -
Well Cheery, next time you come down to the big smoke we shall make plans to visit both the Korean Market which was AMAZING and China town which is equally fun but leaning towards bedlam! I have to say some alone time wandering amongst the tourists was a very different lunch break than I normally have. Less civilized but more adventurous!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Good thinking on lunch Cheery and HOORAY to the denture being fitted at last! Is that the final chapter in the tooth saga?

Ooh, Korean Market sounds like fun RT, and yes, let's do that one day!
I hope this is the end of the tooth saga TMV, yes!! Although this is what they call an 'immediate denture' so is only expected to last 6 months or so while my gum heals fully from the extraction (and likely shrinks a bit) - at that point it'll be a permanent denture (or an implant, which I can't currently justify).
Denture is remarkably fine actually. Took about 45 mins to get it to fit properly, but I kept it in and wore it to my meeting an hour later, and it was fine, wasn't any problem talking. It was weird drinking with it in (because you can't feel the drink on the roof of your mouth) and I did take it out for an hour, then replaced it to drive home and met Mr Cheery in town for a cuppa, he reckoned he couldn't even tell I had it in.
Took it out again for the evening now, it's a bit like wearing a hefty sports bra - fine, and useful, and you wouldn't want to be without it, but definitely noticeable and a relief to take it off 😂3 -
Sadly, chocolate does not taste the same with a denture in! Always take mine out for chocolate4
