I know I mentioned this on GP's diary, but anyone who has been a Civil Servant or anything associated can join the CSSC and that gives you access to EH properties and RHS (I think). Cost is £60ish per year. With EH, you can take another adult free. Or if you know someone IRL who is a member they can invite you to join.

Didn't you go to the seaside last time? My vote would be for a castle given that it is the school holidays, especially if the weather is going to be scorchio. 

Pre children we used to play on late rooms - where can we take the motorcycle today or tomorrow, and overnight in a hotel on a budget of X.  Had some great adventures and went to places we would never have thought of.

I think I've got enough actual places to choose from so I'm not looking for any more at this point (so no castles by the sea, unfortunately). We're only going for 4 nights - seems a good compromise between budget and luxury (although I might tag a night at the end either staying with friends or somewhere considerably more budget).

Ok. I've narrowed it down to three places. Here they are for voting purposes, NOT in order of preference (Although I think I DO have a preference)

Can't promise to go with the majority vote - but my reaction to the majority vote will likely confirm my decision

Also, we are going out at 1.30 so I need to book within the next 20 minutes or so  

1. Castle. Well, house that looks like a castle. Very detached, own garden, no neighbours. But also 6.5 hours away and no bimbling potential - it's a 20 minute drive to the nearest place. Bit like being at home in that respect Not particularly quirky or interesting inside, and oddly enough not that much of a view.. 

2. Seaside. Lovely flat, no sea view, but walking distance from seafront and bustling town. We've not been anywhere near before, so lots of new bimbling potential. 4.5 hours drive. 

3. Little town. 2 potential houses here, both quite ordinary terraces. Lots of bimbling potential though, and only 2 hours drive. 

Right, cast your votes while I go and hang the washing out

Vote for seaside. Nice walks, things to do, can just chill by sea for relaxed time, medium travel time. Make the most of it being summer, little town can be a cosy winter break

Hmm, the isolation of 1 appeals to me, but probably not so much to you? In which case, I’ll stick with seaside - especially if it’s a new-to-you area.
