Not really much to update, it's that boring time of the month where not much activity  is happening. I haven't really done much this weekend, although did manage to cut the grass which I have been putting off for awhile so glad that is done (well for another few weeks). Today was food shopping day so that was done and rest of it has just really been relaxing. The last few weeks I have had days where I have felt ill, then others where I felt fine. Friday I was on site for a day then got stuck in traffic for 2 hours, so I crammed in a client meeting and then my body decided that was enough work for the week 😂. I think it is possibly just the light and heat in the office so I need to make sure I take regular breaks and plenty of water.

I did manage to update my YNAB so it is all up to date - which is pretty new for me as I have normally just neglected it by now and then fix it at end of month. We do have a few house things that need to be done, so I need to see how that is going to work, most of it is just getting house spruced up - but some stuff needs resolving - I am looking at you mattress and fridge that is starting to go on blink.

I did plan on doing a little bit of admin work stuff tonight but I know if I put my work laptop on now, I am still going to be staring at the thing at 2am which I am not going down that route

Noone will thank you for being on the laptop at 2am! Especially if you've not felt brilliant for a few days!

You are absolutely right @LzzyIsGod , I did end up going to be early although didn't drop off as easily as I would have liked. I don't know if it is just my own internal pressure re work or the fact that I just seem to have picked up hell of a lot of extra work on top my own stuff. I don't mind chucking odd hour extra to help out but no way should I be having to put in as much extra as I currently am, also really struggling to switch off it is like my brain is constantly noisy 🤣 I swore I would never get myself in this situation again but here we are!

Anyhow Happy Monday all, morning brew ready and all prepared for another week. I have bit of a busy morning with a few meetings scattered in there too, hoping I can just get my head down in office and crack on. I have a plan of what I need to do so.

Also got football tonight so looking forward to catching up with friends.

Hope everyone has a good day

    Morning All,
Yesterday wasn't too bad off a day in the end and glad it was a little cooler in the office. I also had an interesting chat around the prospects of a new job yesterday too which could develop quite quickly depending on how I feel about the inevitable salary drop so some things to think about

I am feeling a little tired as I didn't sleep til late due to football and I always struggle after a night game as the adrenaline is still high, but I got in and celebrated with decaf tea and a biscuit like a proper adult  🤣. All spends were out of personal spends and was only a drink and a bit of food

Today is pretty much going to be an admin day, tonight I am going to sit down and work out roughly how we would survive on the lower salary...which always seems crazy as we have always been perfectly fine on a lot lot less salary so I am sure we would manage. I would like to go back into my preferred roles, but it would be naive to think money isn't a factor.

Hope you all have good day ahead

Money is a factor but so is your happiness. It may mean you have to give some things up but if you can manage on the wage I would say happiness in your job is more important. Though if you do this course would it lead to other roles opening? If so then I would be tempted to stick it out until then

The training course would aid me in the new role more than my current role so the aim would be to still do that. The new role is very much the aspects I enjoyed in my previous role without the pain of being a line manager.

My main issue is my role where I am as spiralled into various different things some I expected others kinda thrust upon me which as made work life balance a mess again. I also absolutely suck at setting any boundaries 🤣

It concerns me that you will not find a role that you are happy with. I remember you were considering leaving your old employment for a long time, then moved to your current employer but considered moving back to your old employer as you have seemed to have never really settled into your current role. Are you looking for something that perhaps doesn't exist? There's elements about every job that are !!!!!!, no matter what responsibilities or otherwise you have.
I also wonder if you are saying 'yes' too much and winding up with too much stress. Unless you work on boundaries, this won't change in most workplaces - the cycle will just continue.

I think my issue is, I went into this role with it been sold as one thing and it now been totally opposite to what I was told.  I have hung it out in hope it will improve and it hasn't and the reality is some of the reasons it doesn't work is I don't have the knowledge or skills for this job and I am fine with that,  am totally prepared to accept some gambles don't pay off - it is okay in my mind that it didn't work out

Add to this the fact nearly every single member of my team no longer exists it makes it very difficult to continue. I am absolute not looking for the perfect role mate, I left my old role due to the overwhelming amount of hours I was doing for no reward - others might be prepared to work 80 hour weeks for a company that isn't there's I am not 😂.

I don't expect perfect, I don't mind crazy busy, I don't mind over time - what I do mind is feeling totally out of my depth the feeling of been crap at a job and the demoralising things that come with that.  I have never settled in whilst then it affecting my mood outside work. I don't regret leaving my old role ( or not going back) it has been the best thing I could have done, but that doesn't mean I have to stick at something just for the sake of it - life is far too short.

Trust me if I felt I could work round it I would the salary insane 😂. There is a very technical aspect to my role ( there wasn't meant to be) now I have learnt some of it along the way but there is stuff you either know from years of experience in the business or you don't.

Edit: My previous jobs I have been in for 8 years and 5 years - so I am not one for jumping jobs - but some jobs just don't work out 🤷‍♂️

@FootyFanDan that's a real shame mate. I hadn't written the post to accuse you of job hopping - if your CV landed on my desk (experience notwithstanding) with 8 years in one role, 5 years in the next and another at what must be over a year, that wouldn't concern me at all.

They can't expect to keep staff if they haven't got a !!!!!! clue what the job role is in the first place lol. Putting in 80 hours is not healthy no matter the company even when it's your own; I was there for many years. Tbf a lot of the reasons I did that was being in a bad way mentally, even discounting that, it's not good for you.

Do you think that you can pick up another role that's more aligned with what you're looking for with a similar or better salary - it'd be a shame for you to lose the well earned increase.

absolutely no offence taken mate , I actually think it can be quite positive to have opposing views on things or have certain things questioned. I think if I reflect I wasn't unhappy with my old job role - it was the circumstances I was doing that job in that drove me away. I took a promotion that in truth wasn't the right move but hindsight is wonderful. I was the most experienced  there so even when I got promoted I was still doing my old role too ( see I told you I suck at boundaries 🤣). The hours were just because I took on a lot more than reasonable for anyone to do, my current role does have a much better work / life balance but yeah it needs to have some thinking done.

I was absolutely ready for a change /challenge and there is no doubt I have picked up some real skills in my current role. I have to accept some of the issues are my own failings as well (and maybe deep down it is the fear I am failing that is the deep route of the issue) . I am not that unhappy that I would just jump into anything it will be done with some serious consideration.

It is good to see your journey from where you were to now, you are a real credit and deserve plaudits. You are proof on how  hard work and determination can change your outlook.
