58 day old TV bought from Currys went Ping!

Hi all

Bought a large TV from currys 21.21.23.

Whilst watching Disney+ on Saturday, 17.02.24, the telly went 'ping!' and refuses to switch on

We have followed the manufacture instructions to perform hard and soft resets but the screen will not come on. It has a red led flashing 4 times to say that it has a problem

Rang currys on the 19.02.24 and was told that they can only offer a repair and that the earliest is 01.03.24

Personally, given that we had less than 2 months use, that doesn't 'feel' right

What is the next step?

Many thanks!

As it’s over 30 days, there’s no legal right to a refund. You have to give them the opportunity to repair it if that’s what they choose to do..
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Let them repair it... your short term right to reject ends after 30 days. After that you can express a preference between repair, replace or refund but the merchant isn't obliged to follow that preference if another mechanism is materially more cost effective for them.

If they are unable to repair it or it fails again then you have a right to reject the goods for a refund (less use if over 6 months old at that point)
  • Thank you, it just seems a little off to have only had less than 2 months use of an item for them to only have ever offered a repair and a long wait at that

It's less than two weeks, isn't it?

It's about 6 episodes of Eastenders though.  Who knows what chaos might take place in Albert Square in that time?!
When my TV broke a few years ago was really annoyed that it was estimated to take 3 weeks to resolve but actually somewhat enjoyed the break and swear I still watch less TV now than I did before.
  • OK, some very helpful answers and clearly some who don't want to help at all

The TV is a 65 inch OLED costing just shy of £2k and was a treat, something saved up for

It still seems that something is not right that only a repair is being offered
  • Did the consumer rights act cause my television to break?  No. Or at least yet to be confirmed

Did the fact that it wasn't purchased in the USA cause it to break? No, unless Peterbrough currys has changed country status

    Great kudos on irelevancy there.

Non of this has been very helpful, misquoting 'the law' in no way goes to help me or anyone reading this if they are unfortunate enough to be in a similar situation

There's no more help anyone can provide, because Currys are - so far - meeting your consumer rights.   It's why I asked about the timescale, because if it is less than two weeks until they come out to inspect, that's reasonable.

I could tell you you should expect an immediate replacement and a hamper, but that would be misleading.
