The biggest risk with Amazon appears to be the package not containing what you ordered when it arrives, and Amazon continuing to insist that it did. More likely to happen the higher the value, it seems.

Might want to take a look at iOutlet as well as Backmarket. When you make your decision compare what accessories are included in the price, battery condition, warranty etc.
As for buying from Amazon, there’s a risk, as has been said, that you’ll not receive what you pay for; in fact there’s another post on the site on this very subject.

Yes, they aren’t the cheapest but you get a 2 year warranty which has been good for me and actual physical shops which is a massive plus point. Highly recommended.

Hello. Don’t know if anyone can help.  I’ve had a hand me down IPhone 6s for about 5 years now and has suddenly started losing power really fast.  As it’s such an old model I think just replacing battery won’t do much.  I can’t really afford a new IPhone and I don’t trust refurbished ones.  What is the cheapest older model IPhone I could get now that is supported? Bearing in mind Apple have stopped supporting some things.  Or any other suggestions.  I only use Pay As You Go.  I don’t do contracts. Thank you.  🙏
I have two experiences with a relative who has the 6s, we got a new battery and on the first one it was fantastic improvement, on the second one the same phone shop tried to steal components (the charging port) and put in a fake battery that would not hold charge, they used a software tool to fake the 100% charge.

Upgrading the IOS to the latest it supported it has effectively bricked it, even with as much turned off as possible it will sit there and be unresponsive to the home key and only the power button brings it back to life and after that the home button works.

I would advise the following options

    1. Put an ad on freecycle for any old iPhone above an Iphone 8 but the higher the better
    2. If you get one use Apple to get a replacement battery.

If this fails then look on ebay for Music Magpie, it may be hit and miss, but they have a lot of devices in pristine condition it is just that they are blue or green models.

We got a new phone for my relative and I have been using these recycled phones to try to create a locked down phone for Energy App for a neighbour who is tech phobic.

Whatever phone you get it will work best with many things turned off, there are YouTube videos like pay it forward that tell you the things you should turn off, but I turn everything off, no background, no sharing locations, nothing,  Apple still supports but your issue will be the version of IOS supporting everything.

Some things like Alexa App install at IOS14 or above but do not work well on old phones, some photos shared by people with newer phones via icloud do not display properly.    Pay as you go is not a problem.

I’m still using an iPhone 8 Plus I’ve had from new not long after they came out (2017?) with no issues.  Just updated to the latest iOS and it’s running fine.  Still on the original battery with max capacity showing as 77%.

My wife also has an 8 Plus which was a reconditioned one from Envirophone.  We’ve had 3 or 4 reconditioned phones from them in the past and have always been happy with what was received.
  • iPhone 8 Plus is not on the latest OS. IOS 16 is a a far as it goes.
It will get some security updates but these won’t be as comprehensive as devices on iOS 17.
Some apps will stop working, banking apps for a start.
