MSE News: Shell Energy broadband customer? You'll be moved to TalkTalk in the coming months

If you're a Shell Energy broadband and home phone customer, you'll be automatically transferred to TalkTalk in the coming months, following the sale of Shell Energy's UK business. But there are NO changes for now and you should keep paying your bills as normal.

  • Octopus are renowned for their quality customer service. TalkTalk are...... What?
Based on my own experience (before I jumped ship in disgust) and experience gained trying to support another family member, my view is that the universe isn't large enough to get far enough away from TalkTalk to be comfortable.
Did Octopus do ANY due diligence?
  • I'm already looking at moving to a new supplier.. GIGACLEAR have some super  prices for the first 18 months.  Do me fine.

How long have you got !!  MAJOR outage in WSM..  for 1 week so far.
  • Don't TalkTalk already supply the wholesale service - which Shell subsequently rebranded.
Strictly speaking they aren't moving anywhere...

    Yes, exactly that.
All Shell broadband customers are already on TalkTalk's network.

I was with Post Office Telecoms and chose that as it allowed me to have a phone line without the extra costs of broadband.  It was very competitive.
Then that became Shell Energy Telecoms.
I was rather hoping that the latest acquisition would see us migrated into the Octopus family and, possibly, an attractive offer to move energy accounts to Octopus also.
Clearly, Octopus have decided that building a telecoms arm is not the core business / expansion opportunity for their business model.
I doubt anything will change in the way the service works so, hopefully, the tariff for phone line only will continue in a similar vein to how it is now.
  • Good news is they have kept the price rise down, mine going up only £1.32 per month, for final 4+ months ish of my contract.
And the positive of my firstvmoving to them was that there was no initial price rise either.

On that, they were near the best.

My 18 month contract with TalkTalk finishes in May, and their offer for a 24 month renewal is (once the CPI+ price increase is added) either £32.05 or £35.95 depending on whether I go by what they've emailed me or what is offered when I log into my TalkTalk broadband account following the emailed link...

I've just checked for my address and Shell Energy is available for £23.99 for 18 months with similar advertised download speeds and the next CPI  + price rise not until 1st April 2025.  I'm probably going to switch to Shell and hope that TalkTalk honours the Shell pricing!
