MSE News: Shell Energy broadband customer? You'll be moved to TalkTalk in the coming months

I just received my first bill from TalkTalk and had an extra £15.21 charge for "Charges since you joined". I contacted them by chat and said nothing has changed and what is the extra charges for?
They advised "I have consulted with my support team and I have great news - we will waive the overcharge on your bill. This amount will be reflected in your TalkTalk account within 24 hours."
That’s good of them to waive a overcharge! I had no say in my broadband moving to TalkTalk from Shell.
Fair to say I won’t be staying with them.

I also had NO warning that this was happening at all, from either company. I just had what I assumed was a scam email from TalkTalk with a bill on it.
It wasn't until my bank notified me that the first payment had been taken out of my account that I actually realised what was going on. I'll be leaving as soon as I can.

If you were one of the early AOL Broadband customers, I think you’ve been moved from AOL to TalkTalk to Post Office to Shell to TalkTalk. I hope no one on this forum has been that loyal.0

If you never moved you are still with talkTalk. As for Post Office, it wasn't born out of the ashes of AOL, it was a separate entity powered by TalkTalk. Shell Energy was repackaged TalkTalk, but again wasn't an AOL phoenix. As a general rule its probably safe to assume if you're with somebody who isn't a big name to be able run their own broadband network under their own steam, the underlying network for that brand is almost certainly going to be TalkTalk powered.0
