@Idreamofplants I know it’s terrible isn’t it. Fortunately right now I am in the, let’s save money mode. But I’m super tired so we’ll see how long it lasts. But there isn’t any ‘spare’ money so it will be what it will be.
Thanks for popping in @fionaandphil i appreciate your kind words.
I’m at work today but have to go back to go to the dentist. Which is an hour round trip so not great fuel wise, also have to pay for the dentist. OH is taking big cat to the vet for his now monthly injection at £100 🤦🏻♀️.Work is beyond stressful. I just want to hide under my duvet on the sofa and forget the world. I feel VERY unappreciated at work I work my socks off without a word of thanks or praise, it’s so disheartening.Have made lunch again, adamant I’m not spending money on food for lunch this week.7 -
Managed to get through the day without spending any money, apart from the dentist. I didn’t spend any on food which was mostly due to feeling bad as the dentist trip wasn’t amazing. I was busy but so bored at work today. Everyone seems super stressed. So still worrying about my job. I have a £10k buffer in PB for this reason but that wouldn’t last long.Sale of business still hasn’t happened and it’s dragging on and we’ve found out the tax implications are massive, will end up with very little from the sale but a whole load of stress to get it gone. OH isn’t happy and is really struggling mentally. We had Thai red curry for dinner, I even cooked rice rather than buying microwave and it worked fine. I actually wanted to cook, which is nice. Going to read one of my books this evening and try and relax as it’s all v stressful at home.5

Well done on not spending, it would only add more to the stress in the long term. Sorry things are tough at home and work. I'm with you on the work stuff. Relaxing with a book sounds great."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2

Ah thanks @jwil I really need to catch up with your diary. I hope you’re ok? Didn’t end up reading I had a glass of wine and fell asleep 😬 on the sofa.
Working in a different dept at work today. Really need to put my bum in gear and do some work. But my head is full of recipes and nice things which is always more fun to think about.Thinking of fun things to do this weekend for free. Might brave the beach on Saturday and take a picnic. But we shall see!5 -
Ok so another day of not spending any money.
had a rubbish day at work, someone had a proper go at me, I now have more duties for no extra pay. I don’t know if I’m in a lot of trouble or not for something that wasn’t my fault, currently filling out all sorts of paperwork, so waiting on that reply. May isn’t feeling well, I just want to curl up and hibernate. I’ve had enough really.I’ve got work tomorrow but working from home. Going to pop into Lidl to check prices and pick up some bread that I have a voucher for for free.
I’ve been meal planning, OH is paying for shopping this week, going to try and get it to £75 or less. Ill
do that as it last Sainsbury’s delivery and then start to shop at Lidl.4 -
If you're not signed up for the Lidl app then it's worth downloading. There are sometimes extra discounts or 'free' things. Hope that this will help keep your costs down.
Fingers crossed for a relaxing and free weekend. The weather looks like it might be nice too so hope this helps1 -
Sorry work is rubbish, and additional tasks for no extra pay isn't great. Someone 'having a right go at you' is not a sign of a decent manager or employee. Is there someone you can talk to about it? Even when people do something wrong there are ways of dealing with it without having a go."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Sorry to hear re the extra duties. You are doing incredibly well with all the juggling - you just can’t see it
I know you said you couldn’t get on with YNAB but the Nick True set up 22 video is fantastic and the YNAB support is great - they literally send you personalised videos - they also do now free live workshops
I only mention it as YNAB has kickstarted my money peace, organisation and has changed my spending habits. It may be worth another go though I appreciate it takes time to learn itDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thank you @fionaandphil I have downloaded the all again as I’d deleted it and will be getting my free bread if there’s any left today.@jwil thank you for your kind words. The person who had a go came and apologised when he realised what he’d done. I’m still worrying about other thing but we’ll see what happens with it.
@LadyWithAPlan I think when we finally sell the business then I may well do that.
I have just been sitting with my notepad, working things out. I’ve just had to pay £100 towards May’s school trip 🙄. I’d forgotten about it and it was first come first served and I didn’t have the right account. It was a rather stressful half an hour! Now need to find that money from somewhere. So just gone through the month, and I should get to Sunday 29th with £70 left, the day before pay day but also the day of the week when I usually shop and refuel. So I will split that money, see if I can go shopping for the week on £30 and only use £40 of fuel. Not sure if it’s doable, and of course I’ll be paid the day after, but I don’t want to eat into Octs budget. Especially when it’s a 5 week month!May went from being poorly to being hugely sick, missed the toilet, so a bottle of bleach later, the smell has finally gone!I’ve done 2 loads of washing today, will do the sheets and whites tomorrow. I doubt we’ll go far this weekend with May not feeling good.I’m currently sat outside enjoying the peace for a bit. Trying to look at ways to pay off the mortgage early, but I need a new car and I haven’t budgeted for birthdays or Christmas and I have Roos birthday and of course Christmas, so trying to look at those now! So I doubt I’ll be able to do anything until the beginning of next year.2 -
I wouldn’t be thinking about overpaying the mortgage until you get your budget sorted. You often seem to have to scrabble around for money for things you’ve forgotten or just to do the shopping. You really need to get a pot to save for birthdays and Christmas, they come round regularly and it makes things so much easier if you’ve been saving a bit each month throughout the year.
definitely get YNAB set up using all the tools available on the website - either reading or video.2
