Santander CC stops working - yet again

Options
For the fourth time in under a year the chip on my CC has failed totally - no contactless, no PIN. The latest card has lasted under a month.

Other cards have lasted years without problems.

Has anyone else had similar problems - and have they rectified them without getting a CC with another provider.

  • To be honest if it has happened four times in less than a year it must be something to do with the cardholder.

Do you have any other cards in your possession?

Do you keep cards next to each other rubbing or near magnets or against a mobile phone etc?

Have you tried loading it into Google or Apple pay?

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Maybe OP could say just what stopped working means?
ie. what type of transactions or what they are doing at the time.

Could be that it is just using contactless & needs PIN entering or anything else..

Unlikely to be magnets.  That used to be an issue with older mag-stripe cards.   I remember the old Psion handhelds could wipe a card at ten paces thanks to a strong magnet in the speaker!

Physical damage or electrostatic discharge are possible?

Does the card do anything at all when presented to a chip and pin device (terminal or ATM), or contactless terminal?
