Tried a couple of merchants that no longer sell it!
But before i go round all the houses trying to find a merchant; just wondered if anyone knows what the current price of it is at the moment?

Thanks

Hi, the sale of house coal has been fully banned since the middle of last year (about April or May IIRC) so you won't find a price for it. Any coal merchant will be able to suggest alternatives. Or try online, I've used coals2u in the past and they've been competitive, but the price varies according to where you live.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

In England we have to use smokeless coal now, wherever in England you are. Up until sealing our chimneys two months ago, smokeless from my merchant came to me in 20 kg bags at £14.60 per bag. We used 2 bags per week as an average, but this was helped by free wood. My neighbour uses the same merchant and similar amount, but he has to buy wood. £70 per 1m 3 bag. He uses 1 and a bit a month.

I replaced the stoves with electric versions. Our entire electric bill doesn’t exceed forty pounds a week ,and when I say entire - light, water, washing and drying.

Our local coal yard supplies various types of smokless fuel in 20kg bags. The cheapest is £11.50, the most expensive £14.50. Each bag lasts about 12 fires, but we also use logs which are £140 a load, (and we use about 1.5 loads per season).
    .."It's everybody's fault but mine...."
  • Only smokless coal and kiln dried logs are permitted now due to the new air quality regs. I would imagine that smokless coal will be phased out in the not too distant future due to the fossil fuel debate.

Aldi were still selling their 10Kg bags yesterday for £6.49.

Some on the forum have reported that they don't think it burns as well as other smokeless alternatives, but it seems to work fine in our multi fuel stove.

Possibly not as cheap as buying in bulk with delivery from a coal merchant, but handy if you don't use a lot and shop at Aldi anyway.

Still available/legal in Wales and Scotland AFAIK  - not sure where the OP is based.
