You need to realise WiFi and broadband are not the same thing , some devices like a desktop PC or a smart TV may be able to connect to your router by an Ethernet cable or WiFi , something like an IPad is only going to be WiFi , your  provider only guarantees the speed to the router , because WiFi can be affected by the environment it’s working in ,  so any speed test needs to be performed using a wired device, if you don’t have any wired devices and only wireless ones ( phone, tablet etc ) then you really cannot check your speed with any certainty .
I’m 73 it’s hard to understand  and keep up ….
Age is no barrier to understanding ;)

Virgin appear to be providing what you are paying for in respect of speed.

You would like to improve the internet speed within your home, is that correct?

Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Although a poor analogy, think of it as buying a car that the manufacturer states can do 0-60 in 4 seconds and 180MPH , take it onto a race track and you can achieve what the manufacturer states , but on your commute to work , you have to contend with the ‘rush hour’ and you average 10MPH on your drive into work …..that was the environment not the car causing that underwhelming performance, you obviously cannot complain to the manufacturer that you can’t use performance of the car on that journey because the manufacturer can’t control the traffic .

A better analogy might be an EV car that has a number of driving "modes", i.e. Normal, Eco, Snow, and Sport - depending on which one you select, you get slow acceleration and limited top speed, or all out performance.
With wifi, use 802.11b on 2.4GHz, and the maximum speed you'll get is 11Mbps. Switch to 802.11n on 5GHz, and you can get up to 900Mbs. So pick your frequency and wifi protocol (the 802.11 variant) carefully if you want maximum speed. But wifi protocol will be set by the computer manufacturer and software (driver). The number of devices connected to the router/hub, the distance from it, and interference from other devices will also limit the speed (pretty much the same as traffic on the roads).

Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

I'm currently on M250 and I get some weird WiFi drop outs almost every evening - wired still works fine, but even devices within a few metres of the router get disconnected (and in the case of my Samsung soundbar, tell me so in an annoyingly loud voice!).

Definitely something odd going on - there's not any sort of peak usage of devices connected to wifi then - I'm getting to the point where I might have to kick every device off, change the password, and reconnect one by one. Just in case anyone else is nicking my wifi!

I am on the virgin media M250 broadband package , the WiFi in my house is shocking . I did a check earlier and it was saying the speed was very slow . It was coming up with Download speed of 26.20  and upload speed of 10.12
it also said beside it ping 44ms .
How slow is this and what should it be ? I rang VM but they were closed . I tried resetting the router. But I don’t think it worked . Can anyone advise me as I intend to rin* them in the morning
    thanks
Sounds like not much has changed since you asked the same thing in July
