Internet and speed

I recent changed my plan with virgin media after terminating my contract .they rang me and offered me the same deal I had but for less money .my internet seems really slow now . I did a check there for the speed but I don’t really know what it all means … anyway it says download speed 77.31 mbps and upload speed 25.93 . I am with virgin media and am on the M250 fibre broadband . I am also an 02 customer does that mean I get double speed on my broadband ? I am getting double data on my phone bill but not sure about the actual broadband in the house . Go easy on me I’m an OAP ………

How are you testing the speed? The only accurate way is with a laptop or desktop computer plugged into the router (not using WiFi) with everything else turned off.

I just googled it and checked it on www.broadbandspeedchecker.Co.uk

Virgin now use https://samknows.com/realspeed/ to test speed at the router. Doesn't work if you have your own (decent) WiFi router attached, but if you are using their hub on cable or WiFi it does a check at the hub itself.

That sounds like the speed you'd get over a phone line. You need to check the actual speed you're getting to a PC or laptop plugged into your router. Use fast.com or speedtest.net to see what speed you are getting.

The whole thing regarding Internet Speed is difficult because of many factors. My fibre connection to home wall then has a router connected to it. Family and work laptops, phones, games machine etc connected. Older phones connect slower (understood) BUT cannot figure out what to put between wall box and router to test TRUE speed isp I'd providing plus dropout stats. Anyway to check?. In this modern family age there aren't ethernet devices like older laptops to hook in to the wall box taking fibre feed. Someone mentioned  sams?.. or something like that?. Thoughts/ideas great fully appreciated. Thankyou

Doesn't that need a white box or something?

No, just run it on a computer connected to your router/hub. I've used it on VM.

So it goes from my laptop on WiFi then via router it checks direct speed from incoming wall box to router?. Right box it shows is speed from my device (laptop, phone etc) to router?. Speedtest ookla app just checks how fast my device to router speed is?
