    Good morning all
Left the phone on again last night having turned the 'cellular' option 'off' and it has backed up again perfectly.
Just begs the question as to why it can't do it during the day?
Does it matter when it backs up as long as it does back up?
I wonder if the issue here is the back up time is around the time you keep restarting your device, and every time you don't do that, the back up works.  That suggests on your phone for whatever reason WhatsApp isn't auto starting in the background and the backup cannot run because WhatsApp is not running.

Most people after all are usually asleep over night and won't be using their device, so its ideal for updates, backups, other stuff that won't interrupt the gawping at the screen.

So the simple solution here is:  Don't keep restarting your device :)  Do what I've already suggested, set up Bedtime mode on a schedule and that will preserve the state of your phone and allow your back up to run.

When we are away, which we regularly are, we need to be contactable in an emergency.
However, we don't need notifications from any apps whilst sleeping.
My simplest way of doing this is to restart - that way, the phone will still ring, but apps won't ping! :)
Can you explain a better way of achieving this?

Scheduled overnight do not disturb / sleeping mode, with exceptions for certain numbers and/or repeated calls.
    Evolution, not revolution

rather than restart could you go to settings / volume and turn all the sliders down other than ringtone slider ?

    Backed up at 03.14am
("using Cellular" is switched off, and has been for a few days - not sure that's relevant)
