Well I had a productive day but didn’t do the things I was going to do 😀 The house needed cleaning so that all got done and I also caught up on my washing.

While sitting here pondering things I decided to see if the cream voile curtains that DD2 bought for her room would fit the window in the spare room and they do. They look really lovely there. I also have a dressing table that I was using as a craft desk that could go in there. I started to paint it white but didn’t finish it so I’m going to finish that and the chair and turn it into an office / craft space. There’s a chest of drawers and a small wardrobe in there at the moment but I’m getting rid of those along with the chest of drawers that are in my room.

I nearly went out and cut the grass but it kept spitting with rain so I didn’t bother. I didn’t feel too good today so didn’t get too carried away 🙂

It's awful when you want to but can't and are restricted.
Your plans for the space sound good.
Decluttering furniture I always find so motivating!

I do like the idea of voile curtains and white furniture. If I see any summer sun I will send some down to you to shine in your window and complete the look. It sounds like a great place to craft in.
I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

  • If those figures are constant that would give an annual figure of  £16452 gross in total. I estimate monthly tax would be about £65 a month. If they vary it could be more or less.
What are your net figures? My pension which is a DB type is always paid net of tax.

I agree with Baron Dale & I believe you need to check the tax code they are using on your pension.  Around 735 would seem sensible leaving you with just over a pound a month to pay in tax.  This would leave you with 522 to set against your employment income.  This would leave you paying around £63 a month tax.  I really suspect you will find that the code on your pension is too high.  You want it high enough so you just about pay tax on it but also so that if for some reason you have no other income it hardly affects your tax position.
I hope I haven't overcomplicated that but the state of HMRC these days is not the best.  Getting a refund from them rather than an employer could be a bit drawn out.  I know everyone blames them but they are seriously overstretched & now they are having to cope with all the ebay & etsy small sellers thing & lots more people having to file self assessment etc.  Another thing to distract them from the really BIG fruit
ETA  If you still have worries why don't you go on the cutting tax bit on here.  There are some really knowledgable people on there who could help.

It's worth talking to someone at HMRC. I spoke to a man about 2 weeks ago who was very helpful. I now have my tax free allowance split between my widows pension (the highest income) and my company pension. He needed to know roughly what my income would be 24/25 and now it's sorted so that I won't pay tax on my company pension and I still have a tax free allowance on my widows pension.

It’s very frustrating. I like getting rid of furniture too 😀

It will look lovely when I actually finish painting the furniture. We did have some sun today inbetween black skies and rain 😀

My wages very slightly each month depending on if I have any unsocial hours, I will try and find my payslip to see why the net figures are 🙂
