I still dont see many LCD TV's that have as good a picture as a CRT TV?I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)
Better to be approximately right than precisely wrong.0 -
I got one of these last week - in fact, I had 3 in four days!
Received the first one on the Friday, set it up, and had an email in the afternoon recalling it because of faulty wiring.
The second one turned up on the Monday, but was DOA - sound but no picture. Got the third one on Tuesday, and everything works fine!
We bought this TV to replace an old CRT in the bedroom, so wanted to get something as cheap as possible. For the price I can't really fault it - the picture and sound quality are fine for something which gets occasional use. The remote is a bit unresponsive, but that isn't a major crisis.
I'm not sure the picture quality is good enough that I would have it for a main TV though - it certainly doesn't compare to our Toshiba 36" CRT, although it is an awful lot smaller!
This TV has been discussed quite a bit on digitalspy and avforums as well, were others have also run into some quality control issues - you may want to check there.
Having heard horror stories about ebuyer customer service, I was surprised how easy it was to sort out the problems - each TV was collected & replaced on next day service.0 -
I notice that Aldi's specialbuy magazine gives details of their latest 32" Tevion HD LCD TV at £349.99 available on Thursday 7th February. Strangely enough it is not mentioned on their website. Its spec is not vastly different to comparitevely priced TVs. As mentioned previously, the LG32LB75 is the one that seems to have won the awards. This is now available online at Dixons for £436. Generally the 'bigger' the contrast the better the picture - the LGs is around 5000:1 as opposed to the general 1500:1.0

5000:1???
That doesn't sound right, of course there is a difference in ways to measure the contrast ratio (static and dynamic - gives two very different ratios). But even so, 5000:1 sounds like it would be a typo.
Not saying that it's not possible tho.
Edit:
Just looked around and on several sites the 32LB75 is in fact listed as having a contrast ratio of 8000:1.0 -
MAJOR advantage of the TV in the first post is the 3 year warranty.
Friend on TV repair business tells me that because LCD and Plasma TV are still relatively new some of the components used in them simply arent up to the extra power demands these type of tellies put on them.0 -

I have received my Vistron (from ebuyer) today and I cant pick up any channels through the ariel. I have tested the ariel on my other tv and another freeview box and it works ok with them. Has anybody had any troubles like this?
There has been loads of complaints on other websites about this TV and alot of people had to send the TV back for repare and got a brand new one back so you could receive a secondhand TV (like I have).
I have just realized that I have a dead pixel and on the side there is a crack aswell.
So I wouldent recomend this tv to anybody, no wonder they have over 500 in stock.0 -
Was in large Tesco's the other day. There were at least 50 slim tvs and 8 CRT tvs on display. The picture quality of the CRTs was in a different league to the thin tvs; it was incredibly better. At present we seem to be going backwards in quality as we change to digital.
The technology needs to improve. The thin tvs are much more convenient but even the best Panasonics couldn't compare with the CRTs. I need a new tv and feel compelled to buy digital but I am not happy with what seems to be on offer.
I have to agree, I have looked long and hard at 32" LCD TVs, and unless you are watching HD broadcast or HD DVD I find the Analogue and Freeview picture to be substantially lower quality than my Freeview 28" Sony CRT. It seem particularly bad on fast moving images where pixelation on the digital picture seems particularly bad. I have a 15" LCD in the bedroom and the picture is fine on that size screen, larger ones seem to be compromised. I will stick to my CRT until LCD Technology has improved significantly. I think a lot of people are buying LCD because they feel it is the latest "must have" which the retailers are happy to promote. Ok you save a bit of space but to be looking at a poor picture for the sake of that is not something I will do.0 -

Agree as well, watching standard definition TV is always going to look bad on a HD LCD. HD only looks good when watching a HD source. And you pay extra Sky/cable subscription fees for that privilege. Especially considering that 99% of TV programs are probably standard definition. In fact so many older, enjoyable programs aren't even widescreen. Picture quality is even worse when watching something of the internet which is the way things are heading.
Whereas on your CRT TV everything looks good. Maybe some manufacturers will see a market for standard definition LCDs which is what the majority of TV programs you currently watch are. :money:
I always find it funny how people use space saving as an excuse to hang the LCD on the wall then place a gigantic glass stand or cabinet underneath to put their sky box and DVD player on. Space saving I think not!0
