How did your xmas dinner go?

Cooked beef [am veggie so don't eat it] but made my best ever gravy from the roast [again couldn't taste it] but OH was well impressed. I usually struggle to make tasty gravy so am pleased with myself.0

Mum panfried the sprouts and whilst they weren't nice - they were more paletable than other years and I ate all three on my plate.
Had a panic over the chicken, put the oven on at half 9 - put it on for 10 - 1pm it was still looking raw. Oven's always been on the blink but thankfully it all worked out and we had dinner around 2/3ish0 -
Bearing in mind that the kitchen is in the basement, i.e. below ground and round the side of the house, we turned up and smelt smoke. Whilst waiting for the door to be opened we came to the conclusion that it was the house over the road who seemed to have a fire going somewhere. Came inside to find that the temperature control knob had fallen off the oven (which is only used once a year) and they had no idea what temp. the oven was, and so the goose was massively burnt
I'm so glad I'm vegetarian.0 -
hehe, we just found a tray of sausages in the oven... a little overdone to say the least!
My fella cooked lunch and it was amazing! We had one of our home grown chickens and he did such a fab job he has earnt the honour of cooking roasts for the rest of the year too...!Piggypoints - 207+£10 * Quidco - £95 * Tesco - 1095 * Sainsbugs - 4237I SHALL be debt free!!!!!:D

No consistent discipline from her mother. I've heard her be nasty to Nanny in the past and I told her she wouldn't sit down for a week if I ever heard her speak like that again, and she never has in front of me to this day. She's wary around me because I have strict standards and don't take any prisoners, and she gravitates towards me when we meet.
Personally I don't know whether she's inherited the nastiness from her absent father or is just plain spoiled. She's always been a brat but only with certain people, never with the childminder; she's as good as gold when she's there. She always finds a way to ruin any family gathering if she's not the centre of attention for every moment, and she'd been doing so well today I really thought she'd turned a corner. I'd been so impressed with how mature she seemed that we were arranging to go iceskating in the New Year. She's the reason we only get together once or twice a year.
The women in my adoptive family aren't very stable with the exception of Mum, to be honest. I think what's shaken the niece this time was how angry my DH was because he was standing right there when she did it; she dotes on him as the father she's never known and is aware he's disgusted by her behaviour. The Alzheimers friend is okay thankfully but apparently this kind of thing happens a lot which I wasn't aware of. When things are calmer I'm going to talk to my sister about taking her for some kind of evaluation because this isn't normal naughtiness, it's really awful.0 -
I went to my mum's for the first time in about 10 years. She'd cremated the turkey last night and done all the peeling and stuff. Since she's never had anyone make her a Xmas dinner, I made her sit down with my Nanna and I cooked the rest of the dinner (including assisting the dry turkey to recover!)
After a wonderfully quiet journey home down the M6, mum's rang to say the it was the best Christmas she's had in years (the cheeriness may have been helped along by a sample of my little sister's absinthe!).
Fantiastic dinner surrounded by family, but now enjoying a few quiet drinkies at home with my OH.
Merry Tuesday one and all! :beer:Proud to be a Clob Clubber :beer:0 -

Sola, I'm so sorry for the day you've had. I don't blame you for wanting nothing more to do with the little [strike]brat[/strike] darlingProud to be a Clob Clubber :beer:0 -
I spent a tenner in Aldi's on a joint of beef, yorkshire puds, potatoes, veg and a cheesecake. It was easily the best Chritmas dinner we have ever had and one of the easiest to cook. I cooked the beef on Christmas Eve and sliced it up and covered it with gravy. Also parboiled the potatoes. It took about half an hour on Christmas day to heat it all and serve it.0

We went to my mum's and it was lovely. Except approx 1.5 hours after eating it all ended up in the toilet
Seems I caught the tummy bug my dd is just getting over, and spent 15 hours vomiting and/or the other end every 20 minutes or less. Not funny at all when you're 5 months pregnant with a poorly 13 month old to look after! Needless to say dh took her off to MIL's for the afternoon today without me.
Think it'll be at least a year before I can face Xmas dinner again.0
