Interest is generally calculated on the outstanding amount owed everyday. So for example:
1st balance at the start of the day £100, interest is £10, balance at end of day will be £110.
2nd balance is £110, interest is £11, balance is £121.

Obviously using silly figures to make things a bit clearer. Because there are so few days in Feb, it will usually be low. Interest cannot be charged on what is not owed (referred to as front loading interest) in the UK which is why the interest will fall as your balance falls.

Thank you for explaining it simply because I understand the concept but numbers aren't really my strong point. I've told a few friends whom I went to school with about me doing a budget and trying to pay off the mortgage lately and they were very surprised I'd finally learned some useful maths  😇😂 this is good then, the more I pay off quickly the less interest that goes on ...

  • I've driven DS to collect his glasses today. I avoided picking up anything in the shops which I'm happy with because temptations were right in front of me (we use the opticians in a supermarket). So a NSD!
This afternoon we've sat and gone through some DVDs and LPs to condense our collection (read that as we are fast running out of space). I said to DP if he's serious about moving I'd like to start decluttering now as then I will feel I have an element of order and control unlike our last quick move which totally stressed me out! So he's gone through the garage and found stuff to burn (old wood), throw away and sell which I'm happy with. He's made a lot of space in there 😁 it's a big double garage and I said what if we don't have the same space next time..... He's obviously serious about moving so this is good he's actually decluttering without my prompting many times.
Dropped over a dozen boxes off to a friend who's moving soon too (DP gets lots through work) I said when she's moved though we might come and collect them again if we are still thinking about moving in a month....
    Anyway off to do dinner....❤️

Sounds like good progress.  We have a thing now that goes 'would we pay to store it and move it?'

That's a thought.... because...no to most things out there. I have a similar thought in the house of, it only stays if it sparks joy or is useful and it also has to have a home. The garage seems to have been taken over by DP and his tools and office. We did do this house up ourselves to be fair including electrics and plumbing and some building work and all the tiling so he has a lot of stuff which we need to sort through in order to see what's worth keeping in case we take on another project but I bet there is a load there that can be sold on 🙈

Since yesterday he has £220 worth of stuff sold pending collection and he's said I can have some for the EF / MOP wherever I want to add it to. He's definitely a good'un 😁❤️

S'burys is due in a bit. They've substituted vegan carnation milk for non vegan milk lol but aside from that all good.

  • Love a good sort out, especially if some of it makes some money for the op.

I've got £150 to split between MOP & EF
The shopping came, I sent back the substituted milk and also some spinach as they had squashed it under everything in the box, the guy came back and said he had put through the refunds and would I like to keep the spinach anyway  so I will use up what I can in tomorrow's dinner I think. I will wait to see what refunds go back through before adding the week's shopping to my signature, it is around £100 at the moment but hopefully £95 ish after refunds.

  • Refund is being processed, £4.05. Shopping was £97.56, minus the toiletries and bathroom and cleaning bits which I am budgeting for separately (£6.29) and taking off the refund, shopping came to £89.22 this week. My running total for food budget is £256.92. Eek, that is a little high..I am  not even half way through our month yet but i'm over half way through the budget. Better reign it in. I will shop from the cupboards, fridge and freezer next week before putting in an order. Food is so expensive these days.

Better news on the EF though, with the money that DP has given me from MP sales I am only £4.23 off the EF being  £1000...that is excellent news as my goal for the year is £1500 so I only need to find another £500 this year to reach that.
I am also going to put £50 cash into my bank tomorrow and pay that over to the Mortgage directly. I then only need to find, £137.75 this month to have paid off the interest for this month. I am thinking I will be able to find that from my wages as we are going to try and save as much wages of mine as we can this month so we can see how we can live without it for now.

  • A pic of my veggie lasagna before I added chips and salad. I have to say this was the best recipe I've done and it held it's shape so well! I think what helped is I put it together in an old metal cooking tin with high sides and built it in there, left it for four hours to sit (freshly cooked, so hot still) with a lid on it. The pasta was already wet through and softer so when it cooked it wasn't crunchy or too hard like usual. Definitely bookmarked this recipe (although I did do my usual thing of disregarding amounts of herbs and veg and also added lentils and mushrooms to it 🤣).

The pineapple tarts that DP & DS seemed to like! They were good and I'd make them again but I think I just prefer cake type treats. Super easy though and got the recipe off pint erest 😁❤️ anyway enough Internet for now signing off for a bit.

That lasagne looks delicious! I'm not keen on pastry but I could also be tempted with yours
