    Happy birthday x
    Sealed pot challenge 822

    Jan - £176.66 :j
  • Afternoon all,

Thank you so much @redofromstart & @dawnybabes
Yesterday didn't end up actually costing too much, my friend turned up a little late all flustered at not being able to find a nice card or present in her little village I told her I really wasn't bothered and I just wanted to see her, she ended up paying for my lunch out though which saved me £20, I bought us another round of drinks (only £3.50 I think as we both were working that day, so soft drinks) so very cheap. The takeout went slightly over budget as expected I will absorb that into the food budget though.

I got some lovely presents from people at work and DP, I even got a present from the lady I trained last week, I have only known her a week and she bought me a beautiful pink orchid in a lovely ceramic pot, how thoughtful of her. I wanted to cry when she handed it over (silly me) I also got a beautiful silk scarf and some red DM boots and a few other little bits like soaps and fudge. I also have two presents to put aside for other people's birthdays/ house warming gifts etc I have coming up as the manager at work gave me the obligatory chocs and wine out the stash...I don't eat dairy and I can't drink wine with sulfites :joy: I was grateful and appreciative nonetheless because she didn't have to and let's face it it saves me a few quid on someone else's present now lol.

Not a NSD today either, I had an optician's appointment at stupid o'clock this morning. Remind me never to book one at 9am again because it means leaving the house at 8.15 to get there comfortably on time because of all the work traffic, tractors, school runs and everyone else out on the road. Good news is I only spent £25 because my eye sight is no worse than last time so just the price of the test today and no new glasses needed- yay! I was pleasantly surprised at that because my eyesight feels so blurry at the moment but she said it could be because I'm not sleeping well, my eyes are so tired and I need the glasses more then. I was pleased I could still read the smallest print on a bit of paper when she did the reading test so definitely not going blind like my sister.

Anyway, dinner's have been a bit hit and miss since pay day with takeouts and stuff, I have out the fridge some tofu, veg, and I will soak rice. I will do marinated tofu, sauted onions, celery, mushrooms and peppers with brocolli and rice today. Tomorrow I am going to make a concerted effort to use up all the mushrooms in pre cooked mushroom wellington mix to freeze as the mushrooms don't seem to last long at all. It is Wednesday already and I feel like I haven't had a day to just sort everything out food wise and money wise yet.

My colleague at work is definitely moving, she got the go ahead yesterday for the new house, it means I will be left on my own to supervise the staff. Something I am not particularly looking forward to if I am honest. It makes me more determined than ever to sort our savings out so we can look at me leaving.

DP hasn't heard anything from his job interview, I feel a knot in my tummy at the not knowing and would rather just know either way now. He spoke to a colleague this morning- his boss actually- and she wasn't happy, one of the team members had been poached by the very people DP was interviewing with. She had put DP's name across as a recommendation but they kind of went behind her (and the companies) back to poach the other guy. DP trained the other guy. So if he is good enough you'd think DP is too, but DP doesn't live in central CITY like other guy does....our location definitely is going against us here, so we will see. We expect to hear pretty soon (there is several jobs going so even though DP colleague has been offered it- without an interview I might add) doesn't mean DP won't get offered the CITY area nearest to us. Just would like to know though as it will mean a house move if he does get it and finding new schools and colleges before September for the kids....and if he doesn't then we can just carry on as we were I guess...
until I find out I suspect this anxiety will remain, no amount of meditating or finding distractions is helping.

DS is home today. So I will make enough dinner for him too although I'm not sure if he will have already eaten when he gets back. More for us if he has...Think that's all for now, best go and sort that dinner, have a tidy around and get ready for work  hope everyone is well

  • Morning all,

Well yesterday I left here and went to check the fridge contents, DP put the shopping away the other day so I didn't really see everything that came in - well well, I had 6 punnets of mushrooms :joy: ...I had ordered different types, large ones, posh ones etc and they substituted the bleeding lot for normal white ones urghhhhhh  so I thought I best do something with these asap. Instead of having a tidy around I spent two hours solid prepping mushrooms (dicing) and onions and peppers and cooking up 'mince' with tomatoes and flavourings...so I made two 'cottage pie' concoctions with my 'mince' (which is half diced mushrooms and half lentils- red or green) and two 'spag bol' mixes. One will be turned into chilli though. So I kept a cottage pie one out for today, I will make the mash before work and top the pie and that just needs cooking with some cabbage on the side for later. I froze the other cottage pie, spag bol and chilli mix (that needs paprika, chilli and beans adding though). So the mushrooms for the most part are used up I have some left for mushroom wellington though, which is what I wanted the large and fancy mushrooms for- instead I have usual ones eh so not sure how that will taste now.

DP gave me £150 from his sales yesterday, I am putting in my EF I think. I think I want that up asap really as we are not sure how much longer we can continue to save at this rate as I made a momentous decision yesterday after yet another belligerent member of staff went AWOL on shift and then had the audacity to have a go at the supervisors (ME & colleague) when we found her hiding in a room with the lights off - she couldn't see the problem with it not even in the case of an emergency *lawd give me strength* I am handing my notice in during Easter hols. I will work till then as I didn't budget this month without my wage. I hadn't heard about DP job then either but I felt I needed to do it for my sanity. Now I have made my decision I feel a weight lifted and I don't feel sick any more about going into work. I have meditated on this a lot the last week and I am 100% about leaving it now - the universe will look after us. I have never gone without and always had enough.

As soon as I voiced my decision to my DP the knot in my chest and tummy went. He then heard about the job he went for- he hasn't got it. They hadn't rung him as they are looking to see where else he can fit into the business as they want him still. They chose the other person over him because he had account management experience, DP ticks every box aside from that and they needed someone in that CITY he went for to hit the ground running, they are looking at other CITIES nearby us to see if they can open an opportunity there instead. It is a large global business and everyone has heard of the brand, so I understand why they went for the other guy as does DP and the fact they want to find him a role still is positive. DP wasn't happy with how it was all handled though so I'm unsure if he will even take it if offered, he had to chase up the feedback. We will see. I feel more positive now that things will align as they are meant to so if another opportunity comes up we will take stock then and decide (it might mean a move again) I am kind of glad we don't have to move 50 miles across the country to be honest with you. As much as this town isn't right everyone is settled and I would like to remain close by the nearer city to us for now for schooling. I never say never though so once again, I will leave it as we will see

This morning I made £30 too as I did a tarot & energy reading for a friend of a friend. I was actually doing it as a freebie but they sent me the money across anyway as they had my bank details from another time. That was a nice surprise. So I might send that to EF or mortgage, haven't decided yet. I am off to do some mash anyway to top the cottage pie and when I decide what I am doing with all the extra cash I will come and update signatures

I think you should spend the £30 on yourself. 💜

For what it worth I think you are doing the right thing with your job.

  • So some numbers, my mortgage interest last month was, £208.81. This month it was £194.47! That's a big difference, it does seem to be different each month though and I'm not great with understanding these mortgages and how interest rates are worked out, but I think that is good, right? I looked back a whole year and the lowest interest rate is £203 that I could see. I didn't think it would change that much given the interest rate is fixed but I can see looking back it is anywhere between £214 and £203 per month (and £194 this month.) I haven't even paid that much off in direct overpayments so i'm a bit confused :confounded: haha not hard to do, maths was never my strong point.

£5.06 MOP today, first one of this month, I needed to feed the savings pots first before starting on the MOP. I have put some extra money into the EF today from the money DP gave me, I had to hold £40 in my bank though, can you believe I went overdrawn this morning because all the savings are off in different accounts and I had kept the bare minimum in the main account, d'oh!! So might have to keep a buffer in there as ExH is not great at paying maintenance at 9am ...it usually goes in half way through the day and I end up overdrawn for a few hours. He's paid now though so panic over

DS2 and I made a veggie lasagna today, he made the bechamel sauce and chopped all the veg, it looks good, we will try it later and see if we like the recipe. I was supposed to bulk cook this one for two dinner's worth but it is a new recipe and I thought I would make sure we like it first so only did one.

I went out this morning to tea and cake with friends and budgeted some cash for it, but my friend got to the till first and paid for all three of us! Said it was a late birthday gift for me, and an early one for the other friend as hers is on Monday so a NSD after all  which wasn't planned!

I've done an online shop and got a last minute slot for the weekend. It is coming in at just under £100 which is actually quite high but we'd run out of bin bags, baking paper, tin foil and cleaning stuff and other bits which isn't actually food, the food was only £75...ugh, never mind it can't be helped. My EF is sitting at £855.77 (with £40 owing which I will pay back when I get paid next week) so over 50% which I am thrilled with!!
I have paid the savings pots for the MOP saver account, so we have £900 in there.
I can't wait to get the EF up to my first target so I can start sending more money to the MOP direct.

DP had another meeting with the guy who interviewed him last week, there was an apology for the delay in getting back to DP with a yes or no. He wants to work with DP and the business is expanding so he wants to keep in close contact with him over the next six months and as soon as a role comes up he would like to offer it to DP then. So it was a no but only a no for now which is great news.

I have written my resignation letter ten times over in my head, it is almost ready to put on paper now, now I have omitted all the anger from it at how the business is run :joy: It now sounds something like, thanks for the opportunity but I am handing my notice in, bye. that is a big improvement on the first draft in my head ha :joy:

I am sure I spotted snow earlier....but it turned to rain. I am working a later shift today so not gone in yet, but best go get ready. Thankfully lasagna is sat on the side ready to go in oven...I cannot wait until I am home over dinnertime every day again, Easter cannot come soon enough. @beanielou I think I have just under 4 weeks to go....yes I checked...20 shifts left until I am done forever there....cause for celebration lol
Anyway best run, gotta change and do some bits before work

That is the most sensible resignation letter if you don't plan to sue for anything. Make sure you specify what your last day at work is to remove any doubt. are you due any holiday pay? Remember it is pro rata to the holiday year though. If you are term time or part year then shout up and I'll bore you with the calculations that you need to check.

The interest thing is driven by the number of days in the month (or ours was) - I was slightly cross when March was higher than Feb despite overpaying.

It certainly is the most sensible the others were fun to script in my head though and let off some of the steam I have at my incompetent management team  Seriously though I do have safeguarding concerns they haven't listened to and I do need to think on where I need to report these to. I also have issues with this new company since we TUPE'd across from another company last year. I have actually refused to sign my contract because I had an on-going argument that this is not like for like. They have left me with no contract right now and not said anything, I am the only one out of 18 of us who didn't sign it so I suppose they don't care because everyone else signed up to their new terms.... I am not going on to another job straight away unless one falls in my lap I am going to finish the snagging list in the house and get it valued asap so I should really hold off on any complaints in case I need a reference, but.... I really think some of my concerns need reporting higher. I guess I just need to be careful to who though which is awful really if you think about it. I have to keep quiet so I can get a reference from an incompetent manager  oh dear... anyway sorry I think that may have turned into a bit of a rant there. Holiday pay is another issue...I obviously didn't sign any contract waiting for amendments which never came. So I am not sure is the long and short of that one.

I thought the interest might be because of that but mine seems to change from one 31 day month to another...but is that because less is then owing on the amount left to pay? It confuses me if I am honest, but I was glad to see less than £200 going to them, meaning that over £300 every month is going off the amount owing, I hope it stays that low!
