Is it retail that’s the problem do you think?
Not sure what your last job was x
Maybe a part time office admin role may be better? Or working in a cafe? Something like that?
Yes I think you might be right. retail is probably the problem here. I went to it purely out of instinct that I understand retail, I was born and bred into it. I have memories of being sat on a chair as a small child pressing buttons on tills serving customers to cheers of awwwww ooooh isn't she so cute  and was always there helping family in their shops until I was old enough to take over the 'thinking' part of running them all and doing the admin and stock etc ......just because it is what I know doesn't mean it is actually right for me. It is unsociable hours, the work is hard, the pay isn't great (unless you're running them) and I need to unlearn some things I think, and re-learn that change is good and I am capable of other things!
Admin- not for me. I had an office job in the local co-op head office for a few years (funny enough retail industry again I suppose) I hated it though. I am computer literate, just, but I hate staring at screens, and answering phones and I would rather be busy (even if I moan a lot about how tired I am
Cafe- I have dyspraxia, I was silver service trained when younger, then almost immediately given another role after I deposited a gravy boat in someone's lap, tripped on thin air, poured a drink down someone's uniform and dropped a whole tray on the floor. We called it Clumsy back then, but DS who was diagnosed with dyspraxia was like, ummmm yeh this is because of you, you're worse than me  so I kind of avoid jobs like that now for this reason

oh look at your and your skills, so here is a suggestion and please bear in mind I don't know you in real life but I have a sense of you from reading on here, go for a part time job but pick something and decide to give it " a go".  Now bear with me, pick say tarot card readings and think about how you could do one or two a week. I've no idea what the cost of a tarot reading is near you but near me they are about £35 upward and set the intention to do one a week.  Then think about where to attract them.    I live in a village, I might offer to do them once a month in the village cafe, or at the pub or at the social club, say mini readings over a coffee for £15 on their quite morning. The cafe wins by attracting people you win by getting in a few readings and people know who you are then.  My sister once had a tarot reader come to her house and do readings for 3 of her friends.    I know it would take a leap of confidence to put that out but there are options and you would be free from incompetent managers in time.

Hmm now I've started thinking of ideas I wonder if I should learn to read the tarot LOLOLOL   Not my skill set at all but I'm inventive with ideas having helped a few friends get going in various areas and encouraged them.   I get the lack of confidence in self as I have that too but sometimes but sometimes trying something is worth an idea.

Sorry for the hijack feel free to totally ignore.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Oddly a friend has recommended I try and do the same! I am also debating some spiritual courses, on a small scale, taught by me, put together by me in my home- I could probably accommodate 4 or 5 comfortably. I can teach tarot, meditation (I have a qualification in this too actually I forgot that one), I could also teach other random things people are interested in, runes, flower reading, colour therapy, tea leaf reading, trance work and other spiritual work etc etc (I only ever use 'white' spiritual work though). This is my happy place....and I wish my confidence was higher to do it. But the more I work with incompetent people the bigger my confidence is getting to be honest, so perhaps I am exactly where I need to be.

This is it, your just said it 'this is my happy place' take a little time and mull it over some more, and then get that vision board out and go for it!!
Have you done reiki? if not that could be another thing to think about, but I suspect you have already! Or other energy/ healing work.
Start small see which avenues you enjoy most and build your confidence. Then maybe start putting together an online course, I for one would be very interested if it was on zoom, on tarot or mediumship.
    You can defiently do this!!!!

I have reiki 1&2....although I didn't work solidly for the years I was bringing up kids, I ALWAYS had some sort of course on the go. Usually spiritual as that is what I like to learn about. I ran out of money and didn't get the reiki masters. I may sign up for one, my friend teaches reiki and would put me on her next course for sure. I think this is it......this is what I need to be visualising and doing. I do feel the time will be right when I have my own space to work from so for now....shop work...make the money to help pay for the new garage / office, build confidence and I will have that space available to set up then.

I am very grateful to all of you for helping me think this through

I love that you are thinking that through.

(Schools do pamper evenings to raise funds, a stall there maybe with the tarot?)  I'd love to learn the tarot if you are going to do an online course :)   I don't have the time just now but it is one that has always interested me.   I had a tarot reading when I was trying to leave the ex.  It didn't help at all, I'm not sure how good she was to be honest, it bordered on the "tall dark stranger will come into your life and blah blah" but hey ho it was a diversion when I needed it.

I like Watty’s idea of doing the readings elsewhere - keeps work and life separate but I think it’s a great idea even twice a month while building up other skills.

Hi, Well done on trying to stick out the job, that is very courageous of you considering the way the job has been handled, if you are a supervisor and getting positive feedback already that says something about you, well done, really well done. Also I am glad you took a day for yourself and you feel better good call. And it allowed you to stop and think what you might like to do, all good ideas, I have been to use services (reiki/ tarot) like that in the past, and I always enjoy and feel better for the experience. May you have many more positive days coming. All the best HotdogX

I am going to look into online courses, I have helped friends learn before and they've come on leaps and bounds with it, so I think I ought to spend some spare time writing down a course outline to put together

Ah thank you. I am thinking from here, the only way is up, surely?
The other job had one hour extra a week, but was 50p less an hour, and I would have had to spend money running another car..it would have worked out less every month because of tax, insurance, car expenses. And the job is there just to boost our income at the moment I certainly don't have designs on becoming a FT retail supervisor. I will leave that to those who wish to effectively sell their soul over to the retail industry and be at the beck and call of their managers 24/7 (been there and done that and not for me).
Thanks for supporting me it's really helped having everyone's opinion on this
