Interesting how you thought that through @Suffolk_lass
@Slinky I did chat to the VNM and yes, he would move too on the understanding he would like to see his sister once a week if we were close enough, once a fortnight if a little further away and if I decide to move to another country then once a month which would mean he would be gone for a few days. That all seemed very sensible.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!9 -
Nice to see how your life and options are now opening up ! Nothing to rush into which is goodDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Just remember there is a lot more rain the further west or north you go. That would curtail your riding 😂

Have you seen the price of beer down south? It is still cheaper up here. Although some areas of London seem to have remarkably low rates, as in some mansions rates seem to be lower than our band B rates. Probably because most of them are crammed on top of one another.4

we moved from big city to tiny village. At first we went back a fair bit as it was easier cos we were familiar with everything there but now we are more familiar with our new sources of things. One we are more familiar with the area, two people tell us where they get certain things when we have a need so expands our local knowledge and three town has moved on without us so we now wouldn't necessarily know where to get things anymore.
One thing though that doesn't change is location of family. With regards to your sister and close friends that might be unsurmountable but as regards wider friends and your past it would be nice to draw a line under it and move to a fresh place where it will be all new and untouched.
I'm a lot further north than you are thinking of, would find it hard to be somewhere busy again now that we are settled, we have a horse and rider go through here most days, I love hearing the clip clop. I am east coast ish, certainly much drier than the west but other than that not much difference northy/southy I think. I think I get it lighter longer at night in summer but a bit earlier dark in winter than folks 'dahn sarf'. A property developer acquaintance told us we'd be well over a million for our house if it was where he lives which apart from just being a ridiculous amount of money is nothing like we paid so you should be able to find something that suits you if you are not tied to a particular area???
Lovely to have the head space and calmness to start thinking about possible choices (as opposed to forced on you choices) and it costs nothing to check our righ move and other places online just to see

Good luck with your ponderings Watty.
I'd say if you are going to move in some ways the sooner the better as it gives you more time to get your place established while you are fit and healthy. Conversely - with the increasing property prices down South it could be the longer you wait the better...

It took me a good five years after moving country to feel really happy, in terms of meeting new friends and feeling like I fit in. I don't think I'd want to do that again.
You sound like you have an amazing lifestyle now and I would think long and hard before you give that up. I would do a lot more soul searching before moving locations. Is there something else easier to change?Mortgage start date Nov 2014 - £90,545 over 25 years

I agree with BH30, it does take time to meet new friends, especially if you are no longer working. However, it's not impossible and more space to just be is such a boon.Mortgage Free November 2018
